If it is true, then hopefully GD will get a better deal than his predecessors did, when selling brands. Batchelors is PFD�s fastest growing brand, so hopefully the sale price will reflect that.

Agreed it�s a step in the right direction.....but let�s not get carried away. Look at the small print....huge jump in own label sales, very small jump in branded sales.....good for overhead recoveries but not so good for margins and profitability. Also it sounds like they haven�t got their distribution costs under control yet.

It�s the Q3 sales update for PFD. With Tesco food sales up over 3%, Sainsbury�s and Morrison�s up over 2%.......how can GD possibly fail this time ????

When you see Paxo stuffing on promotion in the stores, ten days before Christmas, just when you expect it to sell at full price. Desperation or good marketing ?

I�m probably being stupid, but I don�r See how owning 49% of Hovis helps cash flow. They don�t pay a dividend do they ?.....or do they ?

So, if as you say, there is value in the 49% of Hovis, owned by PFD. when will they sell it, and to whom ?

Probably not.....as I understand it, PFD have written off the investment in their books, so to that extent it doesn�t matter. I spoke to a mate of mine, who works for Hovis back in about March this year, and he reckoned that they were just getting back to profit. Before that they have had a few very bad years. I read an article last week which said that kingsmill and Hovis were still struggling, so I think that all in all we should assume that 49% of Hovis is worthless......I really hope that I am proved to be wrong.

I hope you are right about 57p by Christmas. The main problem will be, if we get flatish results with more GD promises for the second half, nobody will believe him. I think the more likely way to get to 57p by Christmas is for the new chairman to sack GD and find someone who can deliver on his promises.

Maybe we will find out if it did any good on Wednesday
