Yes of course mrcautious and Dev isn't AIM but of course still holds a measure of risk as does all investing - you don't just randomly buy any old share and hold it. You do weeks of research and ensure you are familiar with the company and the industry if not already so (In devs case I know the tech industry very deeply) and I agree, AIM is risky - most lose money on it including all of these LSE traders pretending they have made a fortune.
The only company I have ever put a significant amount into on AIM is GGP and well aware that if something goes wrong I may lose what is at the moment is a huge profit. GGP may be the AIM rarity that gives 6 or 7 figure profits to many of us PI's or end up as another casualty - we'll see as I only ever invest money I can afford to lose - a rule I never break.
Investing for me is to manage a portion of my profits/wealth as I was lucky enough to gain financial freedom in my mid 30's through a business I had launched when I was 30, the rest is property like Barnard and a significant amount of cash so I can work as a consultant without worrying about paying the bills and peaks and troughs.
Lots of 'traders' pretending they have become millionaires on AIM mate - 99 percent of them BS artists, generally takes years and years to gain financial freedom and usually not through trading on AIM, through working for yourself or ventures like property.
AIM can make some rich if they get lucky and then stop investing heavily in AIM and get sensible - rarely happens I suspect. Dev is main market not AIM though but I admit of course like any investment - it holds risk. I never ramp Dev - just post the reasons I am positive on Dev and advise others to DYOR and not invest on anyone elses opinion. Most of us regular posters here have never posted about some meteoric rise anytime now on Dev mate - thankfully mostly clear of the idiot rampers and derampers other boards have :-)

I used to love watching the reruns of that although I was born around when it was initially aired in the early 70's.

Patience is always the hardest part of investing and about the only way to beat the MM's for us PI's :-)

daveri007 - quite an accusation to make mate, especially against someone like Paddy who spends so much time researching GGP around a busy job and family and then sharing his findings with the rest of us. As investors we should of course have enough knowledge to be making informed decisions in our own investments but who can argue that Paddy's research hasn't been useful for any investor in GGP using LSE and twitter etc..
I certainly wouldn't blame Paddy if he did top slice with his time spent invested in GGP over the years and size of his holding but if he says he hasn't - I believe him. Just the 7 months I have been here has convinced me that he is an honest guy - he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. Filter him if you think he's a liar - obviously no use for his research i assume as he is so dishonest in your eyes......
Yes there are a lot of very excited investors here and probably on other boards such as EUA, hot pharma stocks etc. etc. If you get annoyed by this then internet boards aren't for you mate - its human nature - as are the inevitable derampers and trouble makers.......have a good weekend and chill out - we're very lucky to be sat on such profits during a pandemic and with potential for more high growth my friend - and on that note I'm going back to watching the UFC for some combat viewing :-))

Planning to hold onto my Dev and GGP for the long term too Womo (and intended to from day 1 for both as quality companies) - both have done very very well this year despite the pandemic so consider myself very lucky to have invested in both. Good to see Dev back at 8 plus and also hoping we move on upwards now as I admit tested even my usually very steadfast patience :-) )

I just use ADVFN's free RNS alerts mate, seem to hit my mailbox very quickly when RNS's come out for all my holdings

To new visitors here I would advise you ignore or filter RRR who doesn't do research and certainly lacks any kind of patience in his approach (check his posting history - its a good example to those new to investing how not to invest), he has dipped in and out here trying to cause mischief a few times.
He is just thinking "Oh look eight fantastic results, law of averages means the next one will be bad, lubbly jubbly and I can get back in loads cheaper to recover my string of losses since I started investing during the lockdown, clever boy that I am!"
If his claim of 1m shares in Intu was to be believed in his posting history (as I doubt he had £10k left in his portfolio by that time based on his other 'bets') - he must have lost around £45k gambling on them escaping administration by buying in a day or so before they went into administration.
For newer investors, spend time getting to grips to understand the information in the drilling results and the industry overall rather than waste time reading this poor gamblers posts. Focusing too much on intraday price movements can be unnecessarily stressful if you are planning on holding long term. Although I keep an eye on all my stocks and utilise technical analysis, I try not to worry too much about drops as long as there is no bad news or negative developments to factor in. Pick the right companies, mix in a lot of patience and usually you're onto a winner as MM's do play games as they have done today for instance - only way to beat the buggers is to be patient I think :-)
