RE: Frustration!16 Mar 2021 13:11
Hi Tymers, SAS has a point mate, the earlier and the larger a holding that you have makes a difference in how much benefit there is in topping up surely. I put in a near 6 figure amount in Q1 last year so fortunately holding a few million shares and despite the drop still holding a very nice profit. I'm umming and aaahhing about putting in my ISA allowance for 21/22 though as I already stand to make/lose 5 figure amounts on every penny movement already. So I'm happy with the amount of shares I have (not sliced a single share either personally but I have not lost my business or lost a job whilst many may have due to the pandemic so need to do so).
However when the price dropped steeply - as I always do I reevaluated if GGP over a few hours the first weekend going through everything again and asked myself if this was a new company to me, would I invest at this stage as this is the process I always use in such scenarios. Also, although I keep a narrow portfolio I do like to have around 5-6 shares minimum both for a bit of backup if one or two go wrong but also because I love researching and analysing fundamentals, TA etc etc.
GGP passed my 'test' with flying colours given that most of us who are interested in the geological aspects do see the prospect for a very large Tier 1 mine that will be one of the best discoveries for many years that actually goes into production in the next few years. I think either Hav gets purchased or we go in as a partner so just need to wait 2-3 years max - I can do that.
Perspective changes for most people the longer you hold I think. I don't expect the likes of PG, TomE, Jerry etc. to be buying more, but personally if i was new to GGP or not holding a significant holding I would be happy to be buying as the more shares one owns when we either get an offer or go into production, surely the better and I don't think we'll be looking at 21-24p either :-)
Many on this forum spend so much time arguing about their perspective or strategy being the correct one but everyone has differing financial circumstances, time exposed to GGP, financial needs etc. - there is no universal answer to whether you should add, buy, sell, slice that will be applicable to all.
