UK pound down now to $1.12 and Gold down to around $1650. I hope Truss knows how to run a country. Over here the Donald is in deep doo-do.....no surpise there - what have I been saying since he got elected? So it's all up to Tavsan and Cyprus to make us all feel better. Not good times guys (and gals). There's gonna be a lot investing in Government Bonds rather than shares I reckon.
Not CEPA, Paul....but one day they might go public. Ariana may have to come up with a dividend policy, though, if various governments start offering competitive bonds and recession hits. I know you were not keen on the "reward" we got for agreeing the JV ' cos you wanted funds retained in the Company but it was rather a poor return after being paid over nearly 3 years and if the JV grows successfully over say the next 10 years the shares could turn out good. I was prepared to go with it and I guess I did for almost a decade but it's got too diverse and, I think there needs to be changes at the helm.
Paul - Here is an example of the work of a " consultantcy" which should bring them fees well before 2030.
https://www.lse.co.uk/news/floating-lng-terminal-among-options-to-secure-ireland-energy-supply-dzp3z4sr0ts3558.html
Paul - You'd better hope you're not part of the rapid depopulation! Anyway.....yes, there could even be a long time horizon way beyond 2030 and I did point outthat the last coal-fired UK generation is scheduled to finish by 2040 but I wouldn't have to wait anything like that long to gain profit on my shares in the consultancy..
Let us suppose that " my investment company" is consulted for an idea by a well-funded corporate to suggest a source of power and so recommends a tidal barrier between Dover and Calais. The scheme seems good, the idea is accepted. and " my company" gets substantial fees. That happens quickly and over time more fees might be obtained by recommending how and by whom the construction might be implemented. Eventually the job will be finished and the Corporate should start earning. That would be the icing on my cake , especially if the consultancy had a royalty type of deal for monitoring the development and perhaps even a permanent share of the completed operation. However payment of the intitial fee would have happened quickly...long before 2030 so its shares would have gone accordingly.
The consultancy has the whole world to come up with suitable ideas and could also be on a paid retainer meanwhile by would-be implementers.
Paul - there is no ignorance to be excused. Germany and other European countries may have to keep power stations running on coal if they cannot get natural gas supplies at economical rates. Even the UK is still operating. coal-fired power stations at the present time, until the last one ( Ratcliffe-on-Soar, Notts) is scheduled to close in 2024).
The USA is still producing coal (at increased profitability) and vast trains (over 100 open cars and a mile long) are running regularly. The ultimate aim will be to export where the fuel is still needed. China and India are the biggest consumers (together with the US) but your suggestion that Germany is still using coal (along with other European nations) is very pertinent, especially if there are financial costs and other problems following the stoppage of of Russian supplies.
UK has done well in sourcing offshire and other areas for wind power. Either the Ratcliffe-on-Soar or the former Aberthaw (Wales) power station site may be converted into a Nuclear Fusion unit (possibly by 2040 ) . Over here, our West has both windmills and solar panels generating electricity and many more are being commissioned, offshore too. The outlook for hydro-electric power is somewhat bleak right now with the current drought drastically lowering water levels .
Finally, I believe there is a " another side" to you ,which is very astute and I am quite sure that you can see where I am aiming for by seeking to invest in companies which will hopefully give advice and offer future solutions to providing new energy in Europe and elsewhere.
Hi John and All. Gold has dipped down into the $1600s (what have I been saying to ya'all now for some time...$3000+ my backside!). The pound has again dipped to $1.15 (so much for a "Special Trading Relationship" with the US while your PM persists in following her predecessor's post-Brexit dispute with the EU & Eire over goods movement boundaries (don't forget our President has Irish ancestry and guess who were the largest percentage of immigrants from the British Isles ? )
Other than that AAU is down again so I've had enough of Dr K's " roller coaster" , sold a chunk and re-invested in European sustainable energy solutions.
Okay Paul but not sure how detailed you wanna get - I think we've given this Board rather more than soccer and cars for a while so I'm going to " back off" and await what the DOJ and Courts do, bearing in mind that we are told there is a mountain of evidence and also various State actions boiling in the pot for Trumpy (and some of his cronies like Bannon and Guiliani)..
Enjoy the Mediterranean/Aegean side and I see you should have nice weather. I never got to the south side of "Mare Nostrum" or Africa (though I saw it once from the top of Gib).. We are promised a week of 85F plus here in the lee of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which is nice for September but there are storms north and south of us and, of course, we are getting into the hurricane season.
That special on CNN about Murdoch is to be shown weekend of 24 Sept. Yep, I can think of more enjoyable rags than our "Guardian" and right now it's not doing Liz Truss any favors. In general I reckon Al Jazeera does a good job with balanced reporting.....but then the Qatari regime is very astute anyway.
Paul - I don't believe it was actually planned by Trump as a " coup" . That word has emanated from the world media but I do think that Trump saw a great opportunity to bring down the newly elected establishment by inciting the now so-called "Maga" people to violence. imho "Resurrection" would be a more accurate term than " coup". Nevertheless it was a calculated act and the guy has frequently proved that he is a liar and, over tgime a conman. Either way the action which he encouraged and his failure to hand over the reins to his elected successor could be viewed as unconstitutional . Equally his refusal to return classified documents on request after he was no longer President and his failure to respond to a subpoena left the Department of Justice no choice other than send the FBI into his Mar a Lago resort. WSe shall have to see whether at some point this is proved as a treasonable act. Trump is already on record as stating that he sees Assange and Snowden as treasonable persons who should be executed. On the basis that such punishment was not meted out to the President or Cabinet of the Confederated States at the cessation of our Civil War, I do not believe Trump, if found guilty, would be executed. But the fact remains that he has " obstructed" this country's official procedures and the most likely penalty would be that he is banned from ever holding public office at any level.
Finally I leave you with a current (The Guardian) news item about Bannon which I most certainly consider to be true.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/commentisfree/2022/sep/09/steve-bannon-fraud-donald-trump-truth?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium&utm_source=Twitter
It's quite simple. John. Kosovo was a Serbian Province which over time amassed an Albanian muslim majority. You know the disgraced former Serb President, Skobodan Milosevic, wound up the Bosnian Serbs ( now calling themselves Republic Srpska). NATO basically forced Serbia to allow Kosovo to become an independent State. ) the USAF in error actually bombed the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. Russia views the (now ) Serbian minority as fellow Slavic peoples who have been wronged by " The West" A minor dispute between the different " ethnics" could easily flare out of proportion at any time. The Serbian Army could intervene. There is still much hatred. Maybe in 10 years' time if and when Dr S starts selling the gold things maybe settled. But for my money Western Tethyan should have its HQ in either Bucharest or Sofia, and liasing closely with Ankara.
I accept that, Paul...but I was referring to the USA and the way it might end up with the attempted coup on 6 January last and some of the recently-appointed Justices who may not have been entirely truthful in their interviews in Congress. It might be termed "perjury" even. Much depends though on our November Mid-Terms and what could follow on. Some crimes are exempt from being pardoned.
Paul D - Interesting stuff from the days of " On the Edge" (which I'd never heard of) but I admit to a long interest of some of the controversies mentioned.. Most of the subject matter, as well as the TV Company is now history. In due course I chose to side with " Bremainers" rather than "Brexiteers" and personally annot abide either the Rupert Murdoch clan or for that matter " trumpsters" . (CNN are currently about to broadcast a special feature on The Murdochs) There is not a lot of info online about Theo Chalmers but from this web address it appears to me that his former guest, David Noakes, most certainly got the wrong side of, shall we say, " the Institution.". Maybe he upset powerful people in one of his perceived " conspiratorial " organizations ?.

My Condolences to all of you who , like myself and my fellow Americans loved and much appreciated Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. I am very sad that she has passed away . My wife, as a Canadian , is also distressed at the loss of her Monarch. God Save the King!
Wow guys, we're going to get even more money flowing in.....that is probably in about 10 years if all goes well. Bear in mind this lot has been " on hold" for several years, there will be 7 years of initial mining licence and lots and lots of holes to drill, then calculations of viability etc etc before any useful production starts, Well at least our SP went up a little today. Just get Tavsan earning!
When is the Fed's next rate hike? Now that the Fed has reminded us they don’t plan on allowing us to relax, all eyes are on the next FOMC meeting which will be held on the 20th and 21st September. The market is now expecting another 0.75% hike which will take the top of the target range to 3.25%. How highigh will interest rates go? It’s hard to say how high the Fed would raise rates exactly? The median projection for this year's end was 3.37% rising to 3.75% by the end of 2023 and then falling back to 3.37% by the end of 2024. Thereafter it is hope d rates will gradually decrease back down to around 2.5%vin due course. However only a few committee members need to become more hawkish for the median to rise another 0.5 to 1%.
We'll see what happens to ya' all this Winter, John. Liz Truss is in for a rough ride, I guess ,but my worry is her former support for a "Reganomics" style. As a Democrat that is not , imho, in the general public interest and if she starts down that road it could push voters towards a furure Labour government, and Starmer's popularity seems to be growing..Anyway we've got enough on our plate over here - waiting for our Mid-term elections. Your " barometer" is going to be the pound vs $ exchange rate as well as how she will fit in with Washington thinking.. To day we have a national holiday - .Labor Day. (no pun intended).
John - It would help ,as is being suggested by others, if we had a timescale here for the Cyprus project on the basis of what we " the investors" might expect to gain and when. Also I've noted lately there have been some large amounts of shares sold off which seems (on the face of it) scarey with only a few more weeks to receive the promised dividend. Personally I've relegated Salinbas to my list of "going nowhere" firms, together with CNR , AMC, AYM and latterly PALM.
It appears gold price has moved a tat upwards over here this morning but your pound has fallen to a low of $1.16. To me it is interesting that no " special favors" have been indicated so far for US-UK deals since you left the EU. Biden has at last actually mentioned Trump and his "Maga" supporters as the cause of stagnating his Party's aims to improve the quality of life for my fellow Americans. It remains to be seen if this is followed up by criminal procedures against those who have " obstructed" or, at worst , been treasonous. This plus who you choose to be your new Leader (PM) and the (hopefully) success of Ukraine against Putin may well be the determining factor of all our monetary/investment fortunes. Which is why I am " sitting on my hands" and probably purchasing nothing further until at least New Year 2023.. Enjoy the weekend. Cheers,DJ
Hi bankrupty - Your kind words are much appreciated. Yes, I guess that we " plebs" are manipulated alright by the " fatcats" but there are so many conspiracy theories about exactly who "they " are. The New Order, The Ivy League, the Bilderbergers, the Rothschild family, Pootin, Dimond, RBS, Barclays, HSBC, even our good friend Soros.
The best I have heard is the guy who is asked by a stranger if he believes in Aliens. Whatever answer becomes immaterial when the questioner responds with...Well I'm really a Martian!.
It seems the problem over there is the dreadful increase in domestic gas prices and winter is nigh. Fortunately over here we have plenty of natural gas and, personally, there is a large nuclear power station a few miles away which gives us power at reasonable rates. Our other "gas" - i.e. petroleum spirit got rather pricey here in South Carolina but thanks to pressure on Big Corp from our President we are now back down to around $3 per gallon (US). However in spite of the recent local outcry...folks over in California were paying over $5 per gallon ten years ago and they have oilfields and refineries right there. It's all about corporate greed in my view. Within the last 6 months one of my regular medications has increased from $70 for a three months supply to 0ver $400 - and that is after my insurance company and pharmacy discount. You had Thatcher and we had "Reaganomics" . Now we have Big Pharma out of control but hopefully Biden is going to rein them in one day.
Yes...I do remember your "Winter of Discontent" while temporarily living in the Glos Cotswolds and rotating meals and visits with friends in nearby villages as outages occurred..
Other than that, AAU and gold price are both down today and your pound gets you only $1.17. I don't see anything to do other than sit on my hands until sometime " manana" . I don't feel like further investment until something good returns from what I've already got.
