Deepsurvey - I'm not sure that you are using the best case by equating gold to sterling price. You might have been better off supporting your viewpoint with US dollars. My own position is that I regularly transfer UK earnings to my US bank. Two years ago I was getting $1.40 for every £. Last Christmas, during a brief "spike", I got $1.32. Today the rate is a mere $1.15. What the hell has happened to your money?

My decision instead of transferring anymore today was to buy a bunch of Ariana shares instead. Here's hoping!

Gold - How many people do you know, John, who want to dash out and buy a chunk of gold....and what for? You can't eat it, you can't drink it. Very few people would accept it in payment for everyday sales. All you can do is lock it up or hide it somewhere in the hope that one day you can trade it at profit. You probably would find it difficult to even barter with it.

VanVan - your post about the workforce is reassuring but you are rather pushing it with "short term hiccup". My side of the pond we have some pretty diabolical political infighting which is making it very difficult for State Governors to get federal assistance and information so as to organize containment, health care and advice for us all. There are all sorts of theories...(like the advent oif Summer) which might cause the COVID-19 to disappear....but "short term "? A vaccine is reckoned to be 12-18 months away.

Meanwhile workers are laid off , income falls away and we go into a global recession and money gets tight.
The current downturn in stock prices affords anyone with available capital a fantastic opportunity when the market recovers. Bank shares have almost halved. An investment right now , if one has the "cohones", could see you very soon ( if this is indeed a short tern hiccup) with 100% profit. It could take years of hard graft to earn that sort of return. I respectfully suggest it is a time to invest in blue chip stock rather than buy into the physical operation of any company.

It might well be a good time to top up, Cornishknocker ....but what day will tomorrow be? One can but hope the nosedive today was overdone and stock prices will be adjusted. Certainly (if you have spare funds) it is worth a further punt right now in Ariana imho.

It's open season for the privileged "One per Cent" to swoop in and make a pile. Conspiracy theories anyone ? . Anyway - it's weekend, so just fill your glasses ! Yes, Benjie, I'll readily go along with your last sentence. There is every chance of a rally this year but after some sort of "special dividend" I can see a lot of reasons for a "dormant" period and we are all too aware of how Ariana shares slowly drift downwards when the hoped-for flow of discoveries and increased production is absent. That's when we have to choose between holding longterm or investing in potentially quicker returns elsewhere.

As for gold, VanVan, you and I have differing perceptions on buying into it. It should be remembered that taxation on my side of the pond deems "collectibles" , especially precious metals, antiques and works of art to be fair game for capital gains whereas at least share trading profits may benefit from a lower rate of tax if the stock has been held more than a year.

It may be that, having secured your "freedom" from the European Union, ya'all may be hoping to benefit from closer trading etc with my country but therein could be a bumpy ride no matter who takes our Presidency next year. You know how unpredictable Trump is. However should Sanders take the reins it is likely that anything linked to Wall Street could well be out of favor and those perceived with an affinity to the dreaded One per Cent could be a taxable target. That might not encourage investors. It could spill over to affecting global corporations....including yours!

I'll happily go along with your views, GamblingAddict ( and, being a Nevadan, I much appreciate your "handle" cos it reminds me why my State doesn't levy income tax!). However the 9 million shares thing does puzzle me somewhat. I agree, VanVan, that there could be tax implications for someone. All those reasons, CornishK, are equally valid but I am also mindful that we have contributors to this Share Chat who hold a lot more shares than I do and are probably better informed. For the present I am staying invested. Finally I learned the "hard way" some while ago when Tony Williams, the then boss of the similarly-named Arian Silver Corp (also AIM-listed) explained away a huge sell off of his shareholding to meet some personal emergency. I was uncomfortable with that and chose to sell out. Thereafter everything went downhill and there was a wailing and gnashing of teeth on the blog and by the punters. What was left kinda lives on with little sparkle imho (with new BoD) as Alien Metals (their AIM ticker is UFO).

Seriously, though, there might indeed be a good tax reason to take profits on 9 million this year (if there are losses to offset) but my worry would be if any "insider" knows something that we don't and is jumping ship before things "hit the fan". Plus, of course , my pessimistic awareness of the ever-lurking Murphy's Law at our time of great promise.

9 Million sold in a falling market, VanVan? That is not good news and to me a cause for concern. Someone wants out!
