Not true, they gave the UK the design for the first pressurised water reactor under the 1958 agreement that a company with reputable stature would govern it. Aka RR. Hence we they design and manufacture components for our submarine reactors. Each country went it's own way with its initial design, coming back together in the last 15 years specifically submarine wise to share design. They meed us sat at the table. Think Aukus, we wouldn't be jointly bothering with Australia to have nuclear submarines just for the money.

I don't think it will be far off a resolution now. My company works closely with RR and our unions talk. They've offered us 6% one off (un precidented high offer for COL) and unions have accepted. Probably for the average worker less money than 2% and 2k bonus. But the fact its on your salary forever is the appealing part. I imagine another offer similar from RR will come very soon.

looking at flight stats on numbers of planes leaving Uk airports. the 2 iv checked are all up from 2018 numbers. 23000 leaving man alone last month vs 18000 off in 2018.

who said they were advanced. pressurised water reactors have been around since the 50's...….if you try hard enough you can make news out of nothing.......Advanced nuclear technologies would be pebble bed, thorium or molten salt reactors to name a few.

as for the waste, again this is comparison to Gas reactors. the government was more than willing to sanction the build of the AP1000 , Westinghouse Mega Pressurised water reactions. the waste from those in comparison is far more than the SMRs.

but EVEN STILL! this is not a lot of waste.

The news articles is poorly written for drama as most do related to Nuclear matters. The language it uses... "Flaw".....it's not a Flaw, it's the design. Essentially it's a simplified submarine reactor on land. The Neutron activated waste it speaks of is Cobalt 60 in the Stainless Steel used for the primary circuit. It takes 50-70 years with its half life to become manageable. Hence why the governments current plan is to let all the decommissioned Subs sit in the dock for that amount of time, only 1 is coming up to that amount of time Dreadnaught 1. SMRs will be on land and can just be left there within their own building, happily shielded. Although it doesn't explicitly say as it isnt educated enough. For High level waste it compares the fuel. SMRS are small so need more Uranium dense cores, more reactive, more high level waste, it compares this to Gas reactors which are huge and have approx 20x less enriched fuel.....less high level waste, but more volumes waste. just poorly written all round, GCSE level......at best.

Scare mongering regarding the waste. The topic is emotive for the general public. Given the vast majority aren't educated in nuclear plant and site safety cases, its easy to get a rise publishing drivel about "problems". this will happen, if there's obstacles, they will be overcome.....because they have to be
