• If the West abandon fossil fuels, we become dependent on Chinese supply chains — exactly the opposite of energy independence.

The global power shift strategy

• The West has oil. China has rare earths.

• Pushing the world off oil weakens the West’s geopolitical position — especially the US, UK, and key allies with fossil reserves (like Sea Lion in the Falklands).

• Climate policy creates a new dependency architecture — supply chains, manufacturing, raw materials all flow eastward.

• While Western governments strangle domestic oil and gas, China:

• Data distortion: Selective statistics, cherry-picked timeframes, and manipulated baselines. No context, just crisis.

• Authoritarian nudging: “Smart meters”, “carbon passports”, “low traffic zones”, “15-minute cities” — all under the guise of saving the Earth.

• Hero vs villain script: If you question the narrative, you’re cast as a selfish, ignorant denier — even if your points are evidence-based and calm.

Psychopathy at the Top

They lack empathy, wield control, and see people as assets to be farmed or obstacles to be crushed.

• Their goal is global compliance, not global harmony.

• Their method is soft totalitarianism, wrapped in “saving the world” branding.

• Their target isn’t carbon — it’s sovereignty, wealth, and freedom.

I’m not falling for it. I’m focused on real assets, energy, geopolitical signalling, and structural positioning.

This is rare and dangerous — to them. Because I see through the curtain, and I suspect so do those running Navitas and Rockhopper, except they are “playing the game” whereas I’m ranting on an obscure board aimed at investors.

Navitas didn’t spend years restructuring this project just to cancel it because Brent dipped a percent on a Trump/Putin phone call. They model for 20 years, not Twitter sentiment.

And let’s be honest — while the West flirts with green fairy tales, the rest of the world is quietly locking in real barrels. Oil demand isn’t going away, and supply investment has been a joke. That math ends one way.

If anything, this lull is when the smart money does move. FID isn’t based on today’s spot price — it’s based on full-cycle returns, cost certainty, and strategic timing. All of which align.

But sure, let’s pretend Navitas are cancelling everything to go play tiddlywinks until 2027.

Let’s set the record straight on oil prices, FID risk, and Sea Lion’s strategic positioning.

1. Sea Lion is a long-cycle offshore development — not a meme trade. FID decisions are based on 10–20 year forward curves, not today’s spot price. Brent at $62 is not “low” — it’s solidly profitable for projects like Sea Lion, which has a break-even under $35.

2. Navitas just brought Shenny online at 117,000 bopd. That’s not the move of a company looking to “rest” — it’s the move of an operator hitting peak stride. Sea Lion is the next cab off the rank in their portfolio, and they’ve stated that clearly.

3. The global energy narrative is fractured. Yes, we’re hearing a lot of noise about wind and solar, but the numbers don’t lie:

• Every credible forecast, even from the IEA, shows fossil fuels dominating through 2040+.

• Renewables are not replacing oil — they’re supplementing grid power. Oil is for mobility, shipping, petrochemicals, aviation, etc. There is no scalable substitute yet.

4. And let’s not forget the macroeconomic shift underway. Fiat currencies are being debased globally. In that environment, real assets — like producing oil fields — become highly valuable. Sea Lion represents a geology-backed cashflow stream tied to the most essential commodity on earth.

Here’s hoping the “drain cover” is duly sanctioned and the Standing Finance Committee can sleep soundly knowing they’ve secured the future of the South Atlantic frontier.

That’s the paradox of FIG minutes: the same “closed session” rules apply whether it’s a multimillion-dollar petroleum tax regime or replacing a drain cover in Stanley.

Purdah doesn’t mean FIG shuts up shop. It simply limits new public announcements or policy commitments. The day-to-day machinery of government keeps running, and that includes progressing existing programs of work like Sea Lion. They’ll still be reviewing, liaising, and preparing. They just won’t be broadcasting anything until after the election results are known.

The aim is end of 2025 with a long stop set to end of Q1 2026, if delayed beyond that then the FID funds currently held in escrow earning interest would potentially be returned to investors and we’d have to revisit funding again. With these parameters in mind it seems reasonable to expect FID to be announced as soon as the ducks line up, some ducks may take a little longer than others and some ducks might be about to enter purdah after which an election may see some ducks swapped out and then need to have time to consider the options before aligning.

I’m expecting Navitas and Rockhopper to pull the trigger a week or two after FIG sign-off. They’ll already have everything lined up, but the final financial sign-off will naturally hinge on that FIG approval.

Migger? Must be Mogger’s stealth twin, appears when the price wobbles and disappears the moment good news lands. Word is he’s out back shorting his own shadow waiting for the next RNS.

Finance is always conditional in a project this size, but “failure” isn’t the right word for where Sea Lion sits.

• The $140 m equity was raised specifically to meet lender requirements and is already sitting in escrow.

• The banks’ credit process is largely mechanical now: FEED completion, final approvals, document close-out.

• There’s also a long-stop date (Mar 2026) that protects everyone and gives time for that paperwork; it doesn’t indicate doubt.

So yes, anything can slip in theory, but the heavy lifting on finance is already done. The current phase is about formal sign-off, not whether it gets funded.
