RE: Buyback commenced14 Feb 2025 11:42
Just for additional context on the buyback - the total in 2024 was £1.75bn across two tranches and the current £1bn they have started will be followed by more. There will be a total of £6.4bn over three years, £3.6bn still to come after the current run, so they will also need to up the run rate at some point. I thought this one would be higher but it may just be cash flow timing.
Note they are also restricted to buying max 25% of an average daily volume calculation each day, so even increasing the declared amount of each tranche would perhaps just end up with it taking longer to fill.
The full £10bn three year programme with a preference for buybacks was stated in last year's accounts and they are doing exactly what they said they would, so mostly priced in by the market I think. May just see the SP trending sideways in a new narrow range for a while, until the next catalyst.
NatWest read across not helping the sector today, a few more still to report.
