Hi CK, many thanks. Very interesting - and I often wondered how strong steel mesh and shotcrete type linings were! Unfortunately, not from Redruth but from the NW and NE so coal predominates. Probably get told off as o/t but the site http://www.dmm.org.uk/mindex.htm is worth a look at to understand just how dangerous coal mining was (I doubt if tin mining was any better). I was in Seaham, Durham, recently and checked out that mine on the site, horrendous and very sad! Judging by the Australian mine safety sites referenced tonight, plenty of accidents still happen but with much lower casualties, thankfully. We should remember these things when (eventually, if ever) we are counting our profits and complaining.

I don't know much about modern mining (and thus appreciate the experiences of CK in particular). I would have imagined that stopes were designed to collapse to a certain degree, so was idly trying to research the process a little. I found the short article at the below link very interesting, especially the photo. Perhaps you haven't noticed that Australia's relations with China aren't that good? A recent survey of Australians shows great concern for the future. Having worked in African peace-keeping for many years, I reckon that the West dropped the ball badly And Wow, the EU sending trainers, that'll fix it! I think Portugal have sent a few, not sure about when/how many others. French are trying to get others involved in the Sahara as they are fed up with it. As for a time scale, who knows. The US etc were in Afghanistan for 20 years but have had enough, the Chinese will take over. As for Kod in Mali,,,,,,,,

Not a great deal seen in the media here, either. I was surprised to see the report about fires N of Larnaca - North of Limassol towards the Troodos makes more sense. I doubt if CMRS has any buildings, or plant, yet but the local people are likely to suffer. I was in the same position a few years ago and did pay up as a gamble. It really has paid off as I have survived (just!) the extra years and now in profit. Glad you have decided to do the same and let's hope we do well out of FUM along the line, too. Apart from the cash, we might need it to work well for us too;)

I've seen a report that there are fires North of Larnaca - which is pretty well where Troulli is. I don't remember much vegetation in that area, though. A lot of the planned CMRS activity seems to be on tailings dumps, so not much to burn there. The fires will be terrible for Cyprus as so hilly and water shortages, usually. Let's hope they will be OK.

I'm sure that much of the design, construction and operation of DMGs is still confidential (and experimental) but it would be good to know more about how it will be 'loaded'. There are oft-quoted statistics like 'a plastic bottle can propel a car x metres' , or such but I'm sure that it must take larger loads than one of those.
I have finally persuaded my local council into taking away some abandoned 'wheelie bins'. I wonder if a DME would hold some of those, or do they have to be shredded first?
We do often talk about old plastic bottles but think of the quantity of old Chinese-made Summer tat etc. All those punctured paddling pools stuffed into odd corners and garages etc. Then the Christmas rubbish...Then the tyres.... So much to look forward to.

Thanks Dr A. Please do share what you can, I/we really want this company to succeed from every point of view. I've never been to Protos but I do know those NW coastal regions and how windy and cold they can be. We want to feel enthusiastic about the place and to support PHE. I liked your comment 'its because of the birds' excuse that there hasn't been any obvious progress. I look forward to timely (and I hope, positive) updates.

A couple of months ago, I wrote to express my disappointment at the lack of progress - or news - on the first unit. Apart from the process being essential to the environment, it should have demonstrated British inventiveness, mechanical prowess and organisational skills - not to mention making shareholders some cash!
There were (and still are, it seems) lots of excuses for the delay, including breeding seasons; not knowing how thick the foundations needed to be etc etc.
I was patronisingly dismissed by some members of what seemed to be a PHE 'claque' and hints were dropped that I might be a 'deramper'. Despite the fact that we don't seem to have preference shares, some holders seemed to think that they were entitled to be privy to inside info and be more important than others.
Then we heard that Peel weren't keeping up their end of the bargain but that PHE were funding the gap. Other bits of news came out about pre-ordering alloys etc. Now we hear something about the Council?? Where was that bit of news a year ago?
Today, there are complaints about shareholders posting videos. I really think that the lack of proper updates is frustrating holders.

Looks like we have an object lesson in recycling on the Board, with a little change and some residue.

Don't know about now but parts of Troulli were used by the British Army as Training Ranges. It was a desolate area but great for all types of training.

In the early 1970's, about 30 of us soldiers were seated on top of a hill in Troulli having map reading practice. Suddenly, an old truck travelling at speed appeared from behind the hill with workers hanging on the back. When they spotted us, they jumped to their feet and started waving and shouting. Surprised at our apparent popularity, we waved back in silence. They then waved and shouted even more excitedly. Mistrusting their motives, we stopped waving and glared at them as they shrugged and rapidly drove off into the distance. Moments later, there was an almighty explosion behind us and we were showered with red rocks and dust. No one was hurt but it was quite a shock!

We later found out that they were (illicitly) trying to open up some old tunnels. I wonder where CMRS are in relation to that place, must look for a map (I can read one:)
