Unfortunately, my mouth is far, far bigger than my holding of a few thousand but I am happy to give what moral support I can.

I am no tree-hugger and never expected to make more than a few pounds out of PHE but I'm desperately unhappy to see the potential of this vital British invention and company being squandered. Judging by the size of some holdings mentioned this morning, some of you have vast financial commitments to the company, too.

Yes, the Motorcycle industry...... Not to mention ship building, cars/trucks, chemical engineering. railways, aeronautics, defence, heavy engineering, electronics, metals processing, building materials, tool manufacture, glass, ceramics etc etc.
I used to take the Virgin West Coast line North from Euston. Occasionally, it was diverted somewhere near Birmingam and the train went on the most depressing journey I could imagine for an engineer. Mile after mile of closed down and derelict factories and workshops. Some bore very famous names, others more anonymous but all had employed inventive workers. I won't try to analyse what went wrong but often it might well have been poor management, lack of investment, interfering unions and Government ineptitude.
I have long been concerned about the apparent lack of urgency in PHE and really hope that the management are getting a grip. We don't want to finish up like Rover trying to hold their own against sober overseas 'investors'. GLA.

A couple of years ago, I thought I had a brainwave about PHE pairing up with Harland and Wolff etc to build a ship powered by DMG. The ship(s) would travel to the 'Great Garbage Patches' (Gyres) around the world's oceans to scoop up the vast quantities of plastic which had floated there. After processing through the DMGs, the gases would power the ships. I even thought of the ships being unmanned and mostly self-sustainable.

I started to research the above and dreamt of a Nobel Prize, or similar (still willing to accept a cash prize, nudge, nudge). Then I found out that it isn't as easy as I first thought. The gyres aren't made up of lots of plastic bottles etc, as I had imagined (though rubber ducks had been found intact!) but are mostly micro-plastics which can be eaten/absorbed by living organisms. Filtering the crp out without affecting fish etc would be very difficult.

There is an NGO, "The Ocean Cleanup", which is trying to attract the plastics to floating booms and it might be worth them using DMG technology to process the 'catch' usefully.

Another suggestion by concerned scientists is to process the plastics nearer the sources, ie in river mouths before they float away and breakup into micro-plastics. Probably better still on land!

The 'floating continent' idea looks good but might not be sustainable. Plenty of room for research and action, though.

I saw on TV during an Astute class launch that it could only happen under the right conditions as it was all so tight. The military don't like to be hemmed in case of need for rapid moves.

Hi all. I usually feel that I can't add much of value to this BB as there are some really helpful and knowledgeable people on here (and I'm glad about that!).

Today, though, I think there is some confusion about the Trident subs currently based in Faslane/Coulport. The Scots Nats say they want them out if they gain independence as they (and their Green friends) are anti nukes. They don't mention the economic harm that their leaving would do to Scotland (and are maybe looking for a lot more 'rent').

As I understand it, apart from the cost of relocation, the subs need easy access to the deeps to avold being tracked by hostiles as they leave their current base; there are few suitable ports for that in the UK. Judging by news reports on the Astute class leaving Barrow after completion, they can hardly get out of the yard to the open sea. So the base would be totally unsuitable for the larger Vanguard class without - at least - dramatic alterations (and is the Irish Sea deep/wide enough at that point?).

The mention of Europe probably refers to the 'option' that our subs could be based in France (or even the USA!) instead. Words fail me on the prospect of either eventuality. Whoever suggested it to the Press hasn't hasn't been publically identified.**

Now, Milford Haven is being suggested as a possible alternative. We haven't heard from the Welsh on that - yet! I'm sure we will....

I wouldn't say Seaton is the most beautiful resort, Chisler but it certainly fulfills a need among the locals. I was there at the end of the last lockdown and saw the sheer joy of families finally allowed to get out and about.

When I was a kid, being made to stay in for a day during heavt rain was bad enough. Difficult to imagine what it most have been like for months on end. Must have drove the parents crazy, too.

Lots of free and cheap ways of keeping the kids amused in Seaton. And for the old frts, brilliant haddock, chips and mushy peas (and a few beers:). Luxury!

Phew, what a relief, we don't need that boring old gas storage after all! Turns out we can import and burn coal instead to tide us over any gaps in wind and gas powered electricity generation.

Thanks Ash. It looks as if it was posted earlier but not all of the BB pages have been accessible till now. It does look like a para from Linde that I quoted was posted later in isolation. The full release is much better and does credit PHE, so ticks the boxes I asked about. Something directly from PHE would be good too, hopefully tomorrow.

It really is early days and still a lack of info from PHE but could HUI/Linde really go ahead before the FOAK is fully functional? How would they know the construction and process details?

Tman wrote "Once the FOAK is up and running next year " - which will be 2022. Just before his semi-defenestration, TY told us that the FOAK is now delayed until 2023 (unless things have changed yet again). Due to commissioning problems and delays etc, it could well be later than that.

Although it could be great news about (Hui and) Linde:-

It would be nice to see PHE's involvement in there somewhere. I hope I'm wrong but somehow, I feel PHE is going out of the loop, especially if we keep delaying things.

Hi FUK, his b/s about the board 'killing' him, his mother and his deluded followers (must be some sort of suicide cult, if they actually exist) may be designed to deflect our attention.

We should bring counter-charges against him for the murder of the English language. However, a forensic analysis of his posts would show that he finds it difficut to sustain his 'pidgin' consistently and his writing sometimes appears - almost - normal.

I do wonder if he is really dyslexic or is just trying to fool us. If so, he is a failure and more to be pitied than bullied, poor, tortured, soul that he is.

Sell up and get (some of) your money back if you must. Otherwise, go out and enjoy the last of the Summer, plenty of time for whining in the Winter. In the meantime, let's hope.
