Panda, Russia is mostly quite nice with amazing nature and nice family people.
The problem is one of history, generations of soviet communism followed by 20 years of autocratic government difficult times of the soviet collapse.
There has been huge strides forward in lifestyle for many in the major cities and the government are/were trusted as things were getting better. In the west we are used to democracy and freedom of choice that the Russians haven’t really experienced. They also has never seen the real face of government and it’s shortfalls as all opposition and the checks balances it brings are absent.
They need another 100 years to understand. In the mean time they are in a process of learning.
The most vehement pro gov are almost certainly those on the payroll and said gravy train they would like rolling as long as possible.
Ukraine has nothing to lose now that’s why they are dangerous to Russia, before they didn’t want things to escalate out of control hence no action of crimea. They’re in the best possible position to grab it now with precision weapons coming by the shed load as well as anti ship and short range brimstone. They can just keep picking off the enemy until there isn’t any left…
