RE: Chilting - moved to the Dark side24 Apr 2021 01:19
I have absolutely nothing against Enquest - I greatly respect the company, especially AB.
Over the years investing, I have come to realise that successfully choosing who you invest with often has nothing to do with the finances and everything to do with sentiment and potential - both have to be favourable for the investment to be successful.
So, although Enquest has the potential to do well, sentiment is against it, as it is with all oil companies. Hence why, I consider that the company needs to diversify in some way into renewables. Not because of my personal preferences, simply for the company to become a popular investment again.
I have consistently lost money investing in Enquest for the last 5 years, mainly by just holding and not trading the dips. Compare that, to my investment in tech company CWR, who have adapted their technology for Hydrogen and are just starting to become commercial, not profitable yet, but who are up 780% in the less than four years I have invested.
So, to sum up, I would say, its just as important to invest in an on trend company - a horrible thing to say - as it is in a well run company with sound finances, and often more so. As for moving to the dark side, its not me that's moved, investors in general - big and small, especially big - have turned oil into the new tobacco. I just follow the trends when it comes to investment strategy.
