One hidden cost saving for retailers who don't have tills is that they are not expected to take cash.
As a retailer, we have done our best to eliminate cash and the Covid pandemic has certainly helped, we are now down to less than 5% of turnover.
The problem isn't just handling it, but the cost of paying in.
Banks have adjusted their charges to favour everything digital so it now costs about £35 in charges to take 5k in cards and £78.40 to pay in 5k in cash.
Its these hidden charges that make all the difference to the bottom line.
