US cases are still increasing but its very patchy - the problem areas are generally in areas where vaccine uptake has been low but even in these areas hospital cases are not nearly as bad as earlier in the year.

I think the impact on the US economy is fairly minimal, especially as most of the worst cases of Covid are amongst the lower income groups.

Yes, I guess they are very busy and the quality is great but they do need to up their game when it comes to stock control and customer service - when it states that an item is in stock but sold out when they come to pick an order, that needs sorting.
Also just cancelling orders without explanation is bad.

Todays UK growth figures, that were good but came in slightly under forecast, give us a good idea of where we are at the moment - recovering well but problems still exist.

With the UK being ahead of the curve on Covid vaccinations, I guess we are also ahead of most nations in the recovery phase. So with the Delta variant still causing problems, most economies are just treading water at the moment.

This is reflected in Brent, its showing no clear direction at the moment but OPEC+ are doing a good job maintaining stability.

As for Enquest, the SP is at the top of its range, held at this level by Brent, and is nicely poised for a rerate when the September trading update is published.

I don't usually criticise the companies I invest in but I have to say that ordering from M&S.com is a totally frustrating experience.
My first order on the 2nd August, they cancelled after I enquired where it had go to without explanation and refunded.
I ordered more items on Tuesday and they came back to me today to say one was out of stock that they refunded.
So I ordered more today.
it also seems that the order - all for clothing - is coming from two locations and so the two remaining orders will come in four packages, all on different days - a shambles!

We all know what small margins there are on clothing, with all this pratting around I guess that all the profit has evaporated!

OPEC don't have to do anything, it just takes the US asking for lower oil prices that will bring the price down, not much but enough to satisfy Biden in the short term.

Its probably actually good news - a tight range for oil, at about this level, with OPEC+ controlling supply and politicians winging when it gets too high will give stability for everyone - the last thing anyone wants is boom and bust.

Brent at $70-75 for the next few years would be great news for Enquest - much better than a few months at $120 before it dips back to $40 for few months, then takes another six months to get back to $70, for example.

Governments react very differently when they are in crisis mode and or reacting to extreme pressure.

Long term intentions give way to short termism, especially when the decisions are made at the highest levels.

In this case Johnson in talks with other world leaders at COP26 on home soil.

They may not directly say no new oil fields, but if it becomes obvious that there are question marks over new developments, then oil companies will probably stop exploration and development in the North Sea - even a change of Government could scupper development plans.

This is why Cambo is so important as a test case.

Its becoming increasingly clear that new oil field developments won't be able to go ahead in the not too distant future. Even planned extensions like Bressay could be in doubt.

it seems very likely that most nations will sign up to COP26 targets in the autumn and for the UK that means at least the zero emissions target by 2050. Todays UN report has made it very clear that action is needed now.

We won't have a timescale until the autumn when the Government produces details of how it is to achieve net zero, but the writing is on the wall for the North Sea Oil Industry. Cambo could be the last, and its not 100% clear that will go ahead.

The talk in the UK is about climate change and how to combat it but with little thought for the consequences on lifestyles.

As for energy independence, I don't think most people in the UK give that any thought at all, they would only do that when prices started to sharply rise or supplies were cut - then it would be a crisis.

Our politicians in the UK are not forward thinking technocrats like most EU politicians, they live for the next soundbite and just stumble from one crisis to the next, and are led by public opinion.
