Good evening BT.
Well, what's happening here then?. No news but a return towards the 52 week high. Good for you for holding. Makes me groan in looking back to when I sold!, but, hey, we have to do what we think is right at the time and the circumstances at the time in October meant I had to protect my capital. Maybe, hopefully, it is a lesson learnt. Maybe I will be the wiser for the experience if not financially better. Sometimes it is that that teaches us. Good, solid companies tend to rise back to the surface and GBG would appear to fall into that category. Now I have to hope my other holdings hold up in the same way.
TRCS is another case in point. I can't complain on that one either because I made a serious profit there too.
This is going to be an interesting year, and certainly one to be stock specific when choosing where to invest. There is much uncertainty around in numerous directions. There are arguments and counter arguments. The fall in the oil price is good because it will lead to growth due to lower costs; the fall is bad because it is a sign of the global economy slowing (don't believe that imo, more due to over supply and the Saudis etc. trying to drive the price lower to affect the U.S shale production which is relatively expensive). There is the uncertainty of the Greek elections and the repurcussions of a left wing victory. There is the threat of deflation in the Eurozone; will the ECB vote for and put into action QE? (yes - mkts. will likely to act positively?, or no - mkts. will see it as confirmation as to how bad things are). Take your pick.
I believe the recent mkt. retrace has been good news because it has taken some of the froth of the indices, for how long is debateable. As long as we are invested in the right companies then we should be ok.
You mention about small volume can drive quite large movements in share prices and you are right. However, this tends to be more in those companies that are quite illiquid, with relatively few shares in issue and not a lot in free float. That would include TRCS and for my holdings in RM, QTX and LTHM. Sometimes, often, that can be a good thing.
Almost forgot to mention another positive re. GBG - it pays a good divident - enough to keep you in Jura for a good while I should think BT!. On that note, no, I haven't tried Jura yet, but have renewed acquaintances with Drambuie, forgot how much I liked that, yo!.
Good luck BT, you deserve it.
Regards
