Sam, do you not think then that politics & particularly the government of the day has anything to do with share prices? As this gov have made such a big thing about building 1.5 million homes in 5 years I would say politics & housebuilding companies are very closely tied & that political comment is very relevant here.

Thank you for this SG & I agree that the actual shorting of a company very probably has a detrimental effect on the SP, that's what makes shorting so unpalatable to a lot of people I would think.

Well if it's good enough for our Japanese friends it's good enough for little old me.

My first buy here of 2,500 shares has gone through so expect a massive correction in the SP to follow :)

My understanding with the short selling / borrowing of shares is that an investor borrows shares of a company that they believe will fall in value.

In theory they then sell those borrowed shares on the open market and later buy them back at a lower price to return to the lender.

I may have this wrong but it makes sense to me this way round, happy to be put right if I have this incorrect.

Thanks guys, I already hold TW. at an average of just over £1.06 so think I have enough exposure there.

A nice dividend of £588 to come in November from them so happy days & they are one of my investments that I am personally very happy with.

Thanks Clued, my potential MNG buying pot has grown somewhat today when I sold all my GSK due to the lovely rise in the SP there. GSK for me was always only going to be a short time hold & I'm pleased with a near 12% profit plus a divi to come shortly.

What with that & my 25% RIO sell last week I might also have a little buy of PHNX which has been on my radar for a while.

MNG is my favourite in this sector though, although I already have CSN which have been good for me so far.

I will buy here but not yet, it's a long time until the next dividend & I will bide my time seeing what the market does as we approach the uncertainty of the November budget. I guess that if the Japanese buy big time, which they have said they will, I may miss the boat but that's the chance I take.

I hold a few shares in other companies but would be interested to hear what other companies posters are potentially looking to buy, thanks again.

My first post since joining LSE today, so hi posters. I sold 25% of my holding here today due to the nice rise so a little profit taking on my behalf releasing 10K for a new purchase. Shares that I also hold are CSN, LGEN, TW, PSN, MRCH, GSK & NWG so expect to see me posting & learning on those boards. I'm also researching MNG which will possibly be my next purchase.
