ToS1963 - with all due respect, Newcrest had a man on the board until the Franco deal. When that happened getting in a huff was exactly what they did.
They might not have sold their shares but they did make a press comment that they were employing a bank to consider all options with regards their shareholding.
It just so happens that the option they chose was to remove Craig Jones, keep their shares and buddy up with CGP and BHP to go hostile against the management of the company.
NCM can take this stance because whilst all this was going on they signed their earn in for Havieron and early results were securing the supply for Telfer with each passing month. They also raised a chunk of money through bonds for Fuerta Del Norte's streams, so their reliance on SolGold as a strategic investment, in my view, wasn't as strong as it was when they initially came to the table in 2016.
