Jamison - I totally accept the delay in cases becoming hospitalisations/deaths, but as I said earlier, I think it's very likely that this has been with us longer than we think, so I would have anticipated seeing that rise by now.
Anyway, I have been a busy boy on this board today, so I am signing out, and hitting the vodka. Here's hoping we at least avoid any further drops tomorrow.

We can argue all day about case rates, possible seriousness(or not) of Omicron, and a whole host of other issues around this, but I think that ultimately people are split into 2 camps over this;
A) People who live in fear, and think that any rules/laws/restrictions ae justified to save even a small number of lives.
B) People who think that the cure is way worse than the disease, see the broader issues around personal freedoms/responsibilities, and consider that life always involves risk, and we just need to get on with our lives. Quality of life does matter, you know.
THIS IS NOT THE BLACK DEATH!
I will leave you to judge which camp you think I might fall into.
PS - I enjoy vigorous debate, but can we please try to not fall into the trap of hurling insults.

Jamison - thanks for the response, but you state "..it's likely more have died of Omicron .." - but Omicron is just a Coronavirus, so again I have to ask where the rise in deaths is.

Jtan - correct. And just as we came to learn that Covid had been amongst us far earlier than we originally thought, surely Omicron will prove to be the same. So why no rise in deaths?

Moving away from the pandemic for a moment (even I'm getting bored with my rants on this), I see that the mother of that poor child has been sentenced to 8 years over her death. So that's out in four years.
I am literally speechless.

I have turned to my traditional cold/flu remedy, which has been in the family for several generations now . Vodka and coke.

Robbren - thanks for your concern, but I was actually being (or trying to be) funny. I'm fairly confident I will survive, and if I don't, well I guess we all die of something.

I don't know any, but I did consider going to A&E myself, as I have had quite a nasty cold for a week now.

78000 positive tests. So f***ing what! I commented on this just this morning - with people being advised to test every time they leave the house, what the hell did they think would happen.
PS - the silence around the circumstances of the first (and , as far as I can tell, the only) Omicron death so far, is absolutely disgraceful. I know I am beginning to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but hey - just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not following you!

Hard to believe it went over £1.80 as recently as Bonfire night. That was before any of us had even heard of omicron , apart from Greek scholars.

Maybe we get the leaders we deserve.

Jtan - just read your post about the problem being the p***ies who listen and get scared, and I totally agree. I think the average IQ in this country must be about 12.

I am really worried about my investment here ( I'm quite a bit down already) - but what is causing that worry is not the virus, but the pathetic cowardice, selfish arrogance, and general f***wittery of our supposed leaders.

BB - I have to say that if someone had suggested what you just have 2 years ago, I would have considered it a conspiracy theory. Sadly, I now agree with you entirely.

Woody - I obviously agree with you, but you said "..go to the pub and enjoy your life". Going to the pub used to be one of my main pleasures in life - now I rarely bother, as for the most part it has become a joyless experience due to all of the "rules", and the sanctimonious morons enforcing them>

We will never get out of this until we start ignoring the number of positive being used as an indicator of where we are. How many tests are being taken now compared to earlier in the pandemic? People are now being told to test pretty much every time they leave the house, which is bound to result in an increase in positive results. A vast majority of those will have minimal symptoms, and certainly not severe illness, but as a result of the government/media propaganda campaign, will no doubt think they are about to die - and the headlines of "300,000 infections daily" will be used to enforce further regulations, and generally bludgeon the terrified sheep into submission (whereas all its really doing is increasing the number of people with antibodies).
Whatever happened to the country I used to love? British 'stiff upper lip' and 'bulldog spirit' long since dead. Previous generations must be turning in their graves. Even when (if) this debacle ever ends, I know that my view of the country, and most of its inhabitants, will have been permanently scarred.
Rant over - time to put the kettle on.
