Hurtlr - thanks for the link, that is a great clip, and like you said, respect to the guy for fighting his corner. Usual inane waffle from the politician - they are genetically incapable of admitting when they are in the wrong. Am I being overly cynical when I say that I don't expect to see this clip on the BBC?

Sounds about as good as any other system I have heard of.

Can't see there being any profound announcements over the next few days. While I wouldn't say no to a one-off huge rise, I don't think that's how it will go. I see it being more incremental, with countries gradually reducing restrictions around travel, and the lesser danger from Omicron becoming incontrovertible - plus as we head towards the spring, that will hopefully help as well. Plus hopefully a decent set of figures from IAG in February (I think it's Feb - I really should know).
Anyway, time will tell.

Anyway, I got my wish, with a closing price over £1.60. A great start to the year (not just IAG ,but also a couple of my other investments). Perhaps this year will prove to be better than last year after all, despite my pessimism on New Years Eve. Then again, it's early doors, and there's plenty of potential for it all to go t**s up again. What an optimist I am!

Sundezena (sorry - spelt it wrong last time). Congrats on Lloyds - you are close to doubling your money. At 9:57 they were 50.7 pence. They are now ( 34 mins later) 51.74 pence. You obviously have magical powers.
If you could give EZJ and VOD a nudge (and IAG, obvs.), that would be great.

fordm - you could always drive to the US - assuming the Bering Strait still freezes over every winter despite global warming!

Sundenza -- a big thank you! You made your "I hope banking shares go down" comment at 9:57 - in the last 20 mins my Lloyds shares have shot up over 1%. If you could repeat that comment every morning, it would be much appreciated.

I really hope you are right about that - it would boost the share price, plus make it easier for me personally if I go abroad this summer - but I just can't see it happening. As I have said before, testing is now a billion dollar business, and the people making the money (which almost certainly includes some of our policy makers) will not give that up lightly. Plus our glorious leaders have to be seen to be doing something (no matter how pointless it really is) to "protect" their citizens.
Hope I am wrong.

Sorry Longterm - I know it's got sweet F.A. to do with the share price here, but I just have to say that I have just watched a clip of Macron on the news, and he has the clearest case of "short man syndrome" that I have ever seen.

Linkop - hope your optimism is not misplaced. I'm with you on the day trading - tried it again yesterday (hoping to buy back cheaper), and it cost me a couple of hundred ( the newish Spanish 0.2% tax doesn't help with day trading). Bought a few more this morning, and now have a holding I am happy with, so just going to leave it alone for a while.

Be interesting to see if we can hold on to yesterdays gains or not, or even advance. Fingers crossed.
On a more depressing note, I just read an article on the BBC news website about Novak Djokovic being granted a vaccination exemption in Australia (don't want to get into that now) , but there is also a video concerning a US couple trying to get to Queensland to visit their dying father. It is utterly heart-breaking, and a textbook example of what happens when you grant power to petty, narrow-minded bureaucrats. Shame on them - they are an embarrassment and disgrace to their entire country.
It also highlights the bizarre parallel universe that Covid has now led us into. It is depressing and repulsive in equal measure. Please watch it.

Nice to see the rise, and a lot of optimistic talk. A small note of caution - as the last 2 years has shown us (and most of us realised before) - one should never underestimate the ability of politicians and governments to royally f**k it up.

You are right BB - this is the news the market was waiting for. A huge relief to all of us - it's good to know that prayers can be answered. The share price rise is a nice bonus too.

With US airlines up nearly 3%, and IAG up over 5% on Madrid exchange, I can't see anything other than a really positive start to the year here. Let's just hope it last's.
