A consensus view is building around the world that hundreds of millions of COVID-19 tests are going to be required per month for a long period, and that the disease will be endemic after the initial pandemic has passed, meaning that testing for COVID-19 is going to be needed for many years.

I have made it clear that we intend to partner the SARS-COV-2 spike protein Affimer reagents with several select companies to support antigen test development on multiple diagnostic test platforms. This will contribute most effectively to the urgent need to increase antigen testing capacity globally and maximise the commercial return to Avacta. COVID-19 Antigen Diagnostic Collaboration with Adeptrix



Second partnership to exploit the recently generated Affimer binders to the SARS-COV-2 virus in a high throughput COVID-19 antigen test



Avacta Group plc (AIM: AVCT), the developer of Affimer® biotherapeutics and reagents, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a collaboration with Adeptrix (Beverly, MA, USA) to develop a high throughput COVID-19 antigen test using Adeptrix's proprietary bead-assisted mass spectrometry (BAMS™) platform.

Avacta and Adeptrix will collaborate to develop and manufacture an Affimer-based BAMS coronavirus antigen test that will provide clinicians with a significant expansion of the available testing capacity for COVID-19 infection in hospitals.

Adeptrix's novel BAMS platform combines enrichment of the sample to improve sensitivity with the power of mass-spectrometry to improve specificity. Hundreds of samples per day can be analysed by a single technician using BAMS, exceeding the capacity of single PCR machine, making BAMS a very attractive high throughput technique for COVID-19 screening in the clinical setting.

The diagnostic test will allow hospitals around the world to utilise their existing installed base of mass spectrometers that are not currently used for COVID-19 testing, thus contributing significantly to the increase in global testing capacity. Avacta's recently developed Affimer reagents that bind the SARS-COV-2 spike protein will be used to provide the capture and enrichment of the virus particle from the sample which could be saliva, nasopharyngeal swabs or serum.

Development of a BAMS test capable of diagnosing whether a person has the COVID-19 infection at any specific moment is a quick process and the companies are aiming to have a BAMS test ready for clinical validation, regulatory approval and manufacturing in June. Adeptrix and Avacta are already in discussion with large-scale manufacturing partners to rapidly deploy this new high throughput test.

Further commercial details are not being disclosed but Avacta will receive a royalty on the sales of BAMS test kits by Adeptrix.

Apologies for the delayed response, I was offline for all of yesterday.

I expect we’ll hit £500m mkt cap (~240p) pre-commencement of sales, if the test is developed successfully and CE marking secured. Timeframe for that – May/June.

Thereafter I think sales will just grow exponentially. Once £1bn market cap (~480p) mkt cap is surpassed (which I believe will happen once sales commence), the share price could go anywhere.

I’ve always had a long-term valuation target of £4bn mkt cap (a little under £20/s), based on the Sanofi / Ablynx transaction. But on top of the antibody memetic platform, we also have targeted chemo and the COVID-19 angle. As such, I think it really is impossible to place any sort of target price on the stock.

Its technology could literally lead the global war against the pandemic, and in the longer term its therapeutics division could genuinely reshape the field of cancer treatment. Gross sales annually for this second market alone would be several hundred billion dollars. How do you put a value on the company that could ultimately take a significant chunk of it?

In my opinion, it’s dangerous to place a specific exit price for yourself on a company like this. I certainly haven’t for myself. Conventional valuation metrics do not apply, and total addressable market (‘TAM’) calculations are just pie in the sky, really. If I had to point out a TAM for Avacta, I could say that the company is currently trading on much less than 0.1% of its ultimate TAM. Perhaps around 0.05%, at the moment. Even accounting for all of the development and commercialisation risks ahead, that is far too low by many multiples – in my opinion, at least!

I won’t give advice on what to do with your shares – but what I can say is what I’m doing, and that is just to let the story play out. The ideal scenario would really be for the decision to be taken from my hands, with a takeover of the company by a major. Indeed, this is what I think will ultimately transpire.

This is my take on the situation.
Antibody testing is pointless if a fast antigen test is available. Reasoning behind this remark is , if you have been tested for antibodies (using a antibody test ) and found to have some immunity you may be walking around thinking you're fine but the antibodies could have weakened overtime therefore starting the epidemic once more.
Antigen test is your condition at the present time.
Only one way out of this mess....

Several highly specific Affimer reagents for a COVID-19 antigen rapid test successfully generated



Avacta Group plc (AIM: AVCT), the developer of Affimer® biotherapeutics and reagents, is pleased to announce that, in only four weeks and well ahead of schedule, it has successfully generated multiple Affimer reagents that bind the SARS-COV-2 viral antigen as part of the collaboration with Cytiva (formerly GE Healthcare Life Sciences) to develop an Affimer-based rapid test for the COVID-19 coronavirus infection.

The process of generating new Affimer reagents to detect the SARS-COV-2 viral antigen was started in mid-March, shortly before the Company announced its collaboration with Cytiva. Multiple highly specific Affimer binders have now been generated that bind to the spike proteins of the SARS-COV-2 virus and do not cross-react with other very closely related viruses, such as SARS and MERS.

These Affimer reagents will be characterised by Avacta with the aim of developing a laboratory test for the SARS-COV-2 virus antigen within the next few weeks. These Affimer binders will also be transferred to Cytiva shortly for implementation in a point-of-care test strip, similar in appearance to a pregnancy test, giving a visual read-out in minutes using a sample such as saliva.

Avacta owns the intellectual property relating to the SARS-COV-2 Affimer reagents and retains all commercial rights. Avacta is in active discussion with other global diagnostic companies to develop Affimer-based COVID-19 antigen tests to increase high-throughput testing capacity on a world-wide scale.

Confounded - it looks like all of the tests have not come up to scratch so far....so we are in a great position to be the main front runner.
