Hi Tiger - What about Endeavour as a potential buyer, their billionaire Eqyptian (?) owner was rebuffed at ACA but he has a stated interest in acquiring assets and at this price CEY must be worth considering.

I should also say that I have been involved in meetings where the discussions if concluded could basically put me out of a job and no matter how professional you may be you can spend a disproportionate amount of time negotiating you own exit rather than rushing to advise other interested parties exactly what is going on - I don’t expect the ACA top brass to be any different. We are only talking days from Barrick’s announcement - let’s be reasonable.

I have to agree that you need to look at the volume and not the price. If multiple small sells works to drive the price down then that is what they will do. MW increased their short position for just that reason. Nothing has changed, we are likely to get news this week and the shorters will eventually go long - probably just before the rest of us know what has happened. I will be bold and say that, with the news, there is no way you will lose money by investing at this level - I shall pick my moment and buy some more - at the end of the day you should do what you think is right.

Hi Rebess, thank you for taking the time to reply. I had perhaps wrongly assumed that you were accusing anyone who had offered a comment re shorting of being a smart arse - I can see that I was probably quick to jump to conclusions. There is no list other than what information you can obtain on companies that are required to report their shorting position of which I am sure you are aware. Those companies do routinely employ people to go onto sites, often posing as holders to highlight the negative and often in a cleverly veiled way just talk the company down. There are also people who, as it has been pointed out, use leveraged CFD positions and become desperate - it would not serve their purposes well if they wrote to say ‘I am shorting please sell to help me,’so they post in a more veiled way. The net result is that genuine holders with genuine views, which are useful and relevant can be dismissed as shorters and that is unfortunate. I am pretty sure I have come across some of the former on the ACA site which is my normal stamping ground and perhaps have even held suspicions against genuine concerned holders who were caught up in the discussions potentially led by real shorters. It’s all just a sign of the times - I for one am interested in your comments and apologise for an misunderstanding.

Rebess - Surely having knowledge does not mean we have shorted - just established what it was all about - Pistachio commented that he does not short companies but has made money by finding out how to short the FTSE and successfully done it. Gathering information and experience does not make us smart arses whilst burying ones head in the sand is unlikely to make you smart it shows that you lacked knowledge of a factor that significantly affects the market and this share. I don’t short and don’t like it but it is legal and some people use it to their advantage.

I have been in and out a few times now and been very lucky with my timings. I am not quite ready to dip back in but as MYRO is 50% down over 3 months I am certainly watching with interest.

I think end of March is most likely timeline, as to the price - I have speculated at £5 plus (£5.75 target) - ELLY thought late £4’s - anyone else want to pitch in? Don’t let our weakening price push you to sell, we have come a long way fast but nobody is predicting that a resolution and buy out will produce a lower price.

Hi Rebess - like you I have never shorted a stock and do not intend to start. Setting up a short as a private individual is quite easy by the use of a spread betting firm. More often though paid agents of shorting companies do post online trying to drive the price down for their paymasters - unfortunately this activity is increasing.

Perhaps a more reasoned response is that basically the whole of the gold mining industry has been hit over the last few days. MW are guessing that the gold price will fall because of a successful trade deal between USA and China - they could well be right and although a high gold price long term must be to our benefit short term there are much more important things afoot. Newcomers having made gains will sell easily and even those that are now down will jump ship and MW will hoover up the shares. Those of us who have been around for a while and know what is going on will stick around. Let’s hope that the ACA board have met with Barrick and news is released very soon - you may even consider selling your other gold stocks and buying here on the dips. 持有硬

This time I am truly amazed, I had even stopped looking - 0.52%. It will not change anything but I definitely did not expect that.

I think the whole gold market is suffering - CEY been hit on poor results 25% down and even FRES hammered today I will not be buying either of those for now as neither even at their new lows have anything like the opportunity that ACA represents. We are waiting for significant news which will transform our SP - don’t worry hold hard.

No doubt that you made the right decision dimi - but Barrick will prove a solid buy over time following the RRS merger and if they pull off the Newmont merger and do make $7 billion savings as predicted then that will be a spectacular investment. Not a great day for us but we have to expect some ebb and flow before news lands - hold hard.

I can understand where you are coming from T but if there are sellers they will be those that have brought in recently and perhaps do not fully understand the opportunity and timescale here - oh and of course the shorters moving the price so that they can close out their position. Don’t worry about it the SP will be back up soon.

I can accept that if I was already invested I would be buying more and I note that many of you are but if the SP is going to rise this share can’t just feed off existing investors but it needs new investors to come on board and I for one - keen on gold and appreciative of the assets you have will wait - this has further to fall before it begins to rise.

Sorry Razor that is not the case re $ deposits but I am sure you are right about CEY’s only exposure to E£ is for wages etc.

Glad to hear it I was simply replying to your comments about interest rates in Egypt obviously they would only be relevant if CEY held deposits in Egyptian £.

I would be more worried by the fact that the Egyptian pound has halved in value since March 16 and any deposits attracting 15% interest rates would have to be in local currency.

Tiger I think you are right and Barrick have had a deal arranged with Shandong agreed for sometime just waiting for a settlement with GoT. We should know soon.

Hi dimi - the proposal is just an indicative offer - Barrick price dropped 28c yesterday for example. The offer would be based on SP at time of deal. I think the merger rather than a takeover is hands down a great deal for both Barrick and Newmont shareholders- nobody is big enough to buy either of these companies out at a premium or for cash, they can both either grow independently by buying up other smaller companies or jump into the biggest and I would suggest most profitable gold company that the world have ever seen in one go. Acting now Barrick can expect a slightly bigger seat at the table if Newmont and Goldcorp merge then they would be the ones knocking on Barrick’s door with an offer to merge but by then it would be Newmont that were in control of the process.
