The politics of US to UK and EU relations has changed quite substantially since the new regime came into office. In some instances but not all as is being revealed. Merkell moved quick to try and lock the US into a close EU relationship and cold shoulder the UK. The free access to US travellers was not reciprocated. To that end the cooler diplomatic relationship between the EU and US compared to the UK and US seems to continue. Certainly Biden regards the UK as Trump lite and with the psychotic madness that set in against Trump egged on by astonishing troll media broadcasts 24/7, he and Pelosi along with a host of other Democrats started off cooler to the UK. But with some direct dealing and Biden's rapid education on how much US forces do actually rely on UK forces, troops, equipment and intelligence with the sudden change in circumstances in Afghanistan, especially with the UK special forces still there helping out (oh yes they are!) The Biden administration does not seem to be so flippant and dismissive of the UK now. The 'normal' more 'special' relationship between the UK and US is being slowly restored. In my opinion of course. It is CRITICAL the UK does not follow the EU reimposing travel restrictions. It will be seen as a political act. Free travel for all US citizens with double vaccination. Keep the policy and I will predict the US will open up much sooner than to the EU. It may have political connotations about it, it was Trump who was supposed to be the one reacting like a spoiled brat but instead it will most likely be Biden getting angry and throwing his toys out the pram and throwing hissy fits that directly affect policies. Downing St must have figured out by now Biden has the potential to dance like a puppet for the UK when stroked in the right way!
