Brief update from Trinity Delta regarding the funding

It's particularly important at this stage of the Company's development that they're able to design and run clinical trials according to scientific rationale rather than how much they can afford - the last thing anyone wants to see is scaled back/underpowered trials. So good to see that Redx have been able to raise such a substantial sum and that have been able to attract new funds such as Polar Capital. Note the conversion of loan notes from Redmile and Sofinnova too.

A decent funding at a fair price, bringing in new institutional investors with an OO to allow existing holders to offset dilution and directors also contributing over half a million pounds. Good stuff.

Yes, looking forward to the day they announce their first dividend.

Look, the reality here is that for the first time ever, Scancell are fully funded and can make strategic decisions based purely on the right/best way to develop the pipeline to optimise value. They don't need to be feeding the market with a constant news flow, they have the luxury and benefit of being able to get on with the job in hand. All the signs so far, such as the new appointments suggest that they're addressing areas that require attention and are serious about driving development as quickly and efficiently as possible.

It's only 3 weeks since we were given a full update on the entire pipeline via the AGM presentation. Since then we've had announcements of Vulpes and CH share purchases, appointment of a CMO and MD and the AGM for those who wanted to listen in and ask questions - and we're already talking about where the next news is coming from! The AGM presentation gave very clear timescales for SCIB1, Modi1 and Covidity and I think talk of news in Spring next year arose directly as a result of that. FWIW, my own opinion is that the next news will could be around approval of the new trial protocol for SCIB1, completion of manufacture for Modi1 and possibly regaining the rights to SCIB2.

We all know that news can come out of the blue and that bios can turn on a sixpence. On the other hand, it may be that there will be a quieter period now while they just crack on - they have a huge amount of work to get through if they're to get these trials up and running and for once, lack of funds won't be holding them back. I think most longs here will be content with that.

Have just noticed 910 paid this morning - must be an all time high. Ergomed has been a cracking stock to hold, although clearly very much under the radar as far as bulletin boards are concerned:)

The latest Trinity Delta note suggests that may well be the case. They mention that Scancell now have the ability to develop SCIB2 or 'an updated derivative' in-house if Scancell regain the rights from CRUK. Applying Avidimab to SCIB2 would give Scancell double bang for their buck when it comes to R&D expenditure - validation of 2 platforms in one. I believe it would also extend the patent life of SCIB2.

Moving back to Scancell, CRUK have updated their pipeline and SCIB2 is still there. Unsurprisingly it's still at the exploratory stage, but for now at least it remains with CRUK.

Another way of looking at it perhaps is that without investment from overseas funds like Vulpes and Redmile, biotechs. like Scancell just wouldn't be able to exist.

Have only just noticed your post to me and I think Burble has already covered some of what you're asking but fwiw this is a summary of where I think Scancell are regarding trials and new appointments.

MODI1
So far we've been told that the trial will begin with a dose escalation in 2 patient cohorts and then expand into 4 different cancers with 18 to 20 patients per cancer type. So if plans remain the same, in total it'll probably somewhere around 80 to 90 patients. Next news on Modi1 is possibly manufacture and CTA approval from MHRA. Recruitment to this trial should be much quicker than SCIB1.

SCIB1
We know that a protocol amendment has been submitted to the MHRA (and FDA?) to introduce Covid related changes and they are awaiting approval of that amendment. The new protocol should make it easier/quicker to get the trial back up and running. Having said that, I think we have to be realistic and accept that due to the setting of the trial, recruitment is unlikely to be speedy.

Covidity
We haven't been given any details but the phase 1 could involve anything from 30 or 40 all the way up to 100 healthy patients.

NEW CMO & MD and Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)
I'm not sure whether the new appointments were at the suggestion of the SAB, they could have been. I think it's clear for all to see that if Scancell are to move forward, they really need to strengthen their infrastructure and resources when it comes to planning and executing clinical trials. It's good to see this has been recognised and the first steps have been taken by recruiting at the higher level. I guess there will be more appointments underneath in due course.

Looks like they're going to run another trial at the half/full dose whilst pressing on with seeking approval in the UK. Makes sense as the results so far are based on just 131 cases of Covid across both dosing arms. As there were only 2741 patients on the half dose, a relatively small no. of covid cases could make quite a difference to the percentages so they may have just got lucky or they may be onto something. Time will tell.

Almost unbelievable, given the controls that are in place for drug manufacture that such a mistake could occur.

AstraZeneca has now started a phase III trial in 5000 patients for AZD7442 - a long-acting monoclonal antibody ****tail created to prevent infection with Covid-19 for patients who are unable to be vaccinated.

This is great news. It's not only the elderly who are vulnerable to Covid-19. There are many, many young people currently suffering from diseases such as cancer (bad enough in itself) who are unlikely to be able to be vaccinated and so have no prospect of returning to any form of normality. It would be fantastic if this treatment does provide long term protection.

Without knowledge of the protocol for each trial and the full results, I think it's almost impossible to make accurate comparisons from these headline results. I'm not sure whether it's true, but I saw one comment this morning that the AZN trial protocol includes weekly PCR testing for all patients whereas the mRNA trials only test when symptoms arise. Therefore the AZN trial would include all asymptomatic cases of Covid which may have been missed by the other trials. If this is the case then clearly it's not a like for like comparison.

Given the media coverage of the holds placed on the AZN trial, it's good to see that there have been no serious safety events related to the vaccine and however this plays out, it looks like the world now has 3 potential vaccines. That means 3 x the manufacturing capacity with hopefully more to come. On top of that, the announcement from AZN/Oxford today makes it much more likely that those living in the poorest nations will have access to a vaccine which is fantastic news.

If you click on my username and read back my posts on this thread, you will hopefully see that I haven't expressed any views or opinions at all on whether people should have a vaccine, nor which vaccine they should choose. In fact, I went to great lengths to point out that to vaccinate or not is a personal choice. My issue is when suggestions are made about safety of any of these vaccines based on 'feelings' and 'general impressions'. We can all trawl through the internet and find evidence to support our positions but hard clinical data doesn't lie.

Hasiba, you will also note that I only ever commented on your posts, I have not resorted to personal insults and I'm sorry that you feel I'm not worthy of a reply. As Scancell is also developing a nucleic acid vaccine, we can only hope that mRNA/DNA vaccines become more acceptable in the future.

Think I'll wait for the experts at the EMA to review the CTAs and take whatever vaccine is approved based on real data.
