Correct, the vaccination rate so far hasn't been catastrophically slow at all - it's been constrained by supplies of the vaccine, the storage requirements and the need to monitor each patient for 15 minutes after vaccination. As they get supplies, they are administering them. Worth repeating that we have the 3rd highest vaccination rate in the world and it's about to ramp up significantly as supplies of the AZN vaccine come along.
The UK has now secured supplies of over 350 million doses of a variety of vaccines but of course only 2 have received MHRA approval so far, BioNTech with an order of 40m doses and AZN with 100m. Ordering these vaccines is essentially booking your place on the waiting list for manufactured supplies. As the vaccines are manufactured they're being shipped out and I'm sure that all manufacturers are working flat out to increase production . Having said that, I was reading yesterday that there may be a potential issue with global supply of the lipid nanoparticles used to carry the mRNA vaccines so good job Scancell haven't gone down that road.
One other quick point, it was mentioned yesterday that the J&J vaccine should be the next to report results and submit for approval. The good news is that vaccine was also selected by the UK's vaccine taskforce and they have secured 30m doses.
