Do we know for sure that COVIDITY is a one time, last a lifetime vaccine? Have Scancell actually said that?

Potentially some good news, looks like the clinical trials register has been updated for SCIB1 and 3 new UK locations have been added - Cardiff, Oxford and Northwood - investigators, Satish Kumar, Heather Shaw and Miranda Payne. Obviously none are yet open for recruitment but with Nottingham that will give 4 UK study centres.

It's impossible to say whether or not we are backing a failure - that's the point of clinical trials. Why should we be concerned? In terms of vaccines which have the potential to be available by the end of the year, options are severely limited so if there is any concern at all, it would be that it may fail not that it may be good!

Nothing in clinical trials is a concern or a threat to Scancell and actually if the Inovio vaccine were a success it would be fantastic. Firstly of course to help in the fight against this virus but secondly it would be brilliant for Scancell if a DNA vaccine showed promise - it would make Scancell far more attractive to potential partners/investors.

I don't know and I'm not sure at this stage how important it is. If you look at the clinical trial protocol, there are multiple arms to the trial which are testing both single doses and doses followed by a booster 4 weeks later. The trial results will dictate the eventual dosing regime. Clearly if the booster route provides the best results then it will add in a layer of cost and inconvenience to the vaccination programme but better than the alternative I think!

I'm not sure that we know whether or not the Oxford vaccine will require a second dose or if it does how long between doses. Previous ChAdOx1 clinical trials in other viruses, including coronaviruses have achieved good immune responses with a single dose and without the need for booster vaccines, it would be great if the same applies for the COVID-19 vaccine.

At this stage all we can do is hope that as many as possible of the vaccines currently in clinical trials are successful and that approval, manufacture and administration is expedited. Looking at the Oxford vaccine there's every reason to hope that it will be one of them, if not then perhaps the Imperial one because it would be fantastic to see a vaccine that has been developed in the UK taking its place on the World stage.

There will always be a need and a massive market for new vaccines offering improvements and that's where Scancell should come into its own (IMO)

Oxford actually used Italian GMP manufacturer, Advent to manufacture supplies of their COVID-19 vaccine for clinical trials - they have since engaged other manufacturers with a view to scaling up manufacture.

Immunobody encodes specific epitopes and creates T cells that recognise those epitopes. In the case of SCIB1 and SCIB2 epitopes from tumour associated antigens associated with the melanoma and NSCLC are used. These are widely expressed on tumour cells but not on healthy cells. So Scancell are creating a very specific and targeted immune response against only the cells expressing the antigens in question and avoiding healthy cells. It's not a case of a general boost to the whole immune system. With COVIDITY they are targeting SARS-Cov-2 epitopes, so again targeted and specific to the disease.

As Crumbs has said SCIB1 has been proven to be very safe in clinical trials with no off target toxicity. This is very important because one of the big issues some patients are having with COVID-19 is a massive and damaging immune response and the very last thing you need is a vaccine that exacerbates that.

From memory we were told that the whole manufacture process from start to finish for SCIB1 would take between 9 and 12 months (including testing) and I assume that was with Scancell slotting into manufacturers schedule. I guess it must be possible to speed that up.

Possibly, although the new dosing regime may require confirmatory trials for the approval to remain in place so I guess Scancell will stick to the 3 weekly dose when the SCIB1 trial eventually gets going.

……...and whilst we're talking about the knock-on effect of COVID-19 on cancer patients, interesting to see that yesterday the FDA granted accelerated approval for a new dosing regime for Keytruda. In addition to the already approved 200mg every 3 weeks, they have now approved a 400mg dose every 6 weeks. Keytruda is administered via IV infusion which of course involves a trip to hospital and this new dose helps to minimise risk and burden on oncology departments by halving the no. of attendances.

Just worth noting that the Vulpes Life Sciences Fund has invested in Scancell but the OBD purchases are coming from a different Vulpes fund - the Testudo Fund.

Really good to see the work going on assessing PD-L1 expression in CTCs. Checkpoint inhibitors targeting the PD-1 - PD-L1 pathway have transformed the field of oncology and at the moment there are over 3300 active clinical trials listed on the US clinical trials register involving either PD-1 or PD-L1. Would be fantastic if Angle could tap into that market.

I also thought the point about the use of liquid biopsies and the COVID-19 crisis was important. How many people have been sitting at home during this crisis waiting for a tissue biopsy for cancer? During normal times over 1000 people a day are diagnosed with cancer in the UK so it's likely to be a significant figure. Hard to imagine the stress and anxiety of being in that position and whether it's Parsortix or another system, what a difference a simple blood test could have made to those patients.

The WHO publish a comprehensive list of COVID-19 vaccines in development and I believe it's updated weekly. It gives details of type of vaccine and links to the clinical trial register where appropriate - very useful. You'll see that there are a few DNA vaccines in development, including one delivered via electroporation from Karolinska. Hopefully we'll see Scancell/Nottingham appear on that list at some stage.

Have to admit I'm struggling to make sense of any of the suggestions put forward so far:-

1) Profit taking - maximum profit on this transaction would be just £15k. Vulpes still hold over 80 million shares - why would they risk sentiment and any knock-on effect on the value of their remaining holding for a paltry £15k?

2) They need the cash - then why sell only £40k, it's a drop in the ocean for Vulpes and why only Scancell stock?

3) They're starting to sell down - then why not sell into the rise and notify the market when the transaction is complete rather than seemingly attempt to halt it in its tracks with such a small sell?

There could be a perfectly innocent explanation such as covering management fees or suchlike - who knows? Impossible to second guess, perhaps it will become clear with further announcements.
