Moving on, anyone have any ideas why the vaccine has been named SN11 rather than a SCIB? Wonder what SN stands for and does this mean that it's going to be quite different from an ImmunoBody?

It's only been a couple of days since the Sky coverage and it's just possible that folks may have watched and want to find out more. If you google Scancell, the 4th result you get takes you to this bb. It would be great if they actually found a discussion about Scancell, Lindy Durrant, UoN, DNA vaccines, ImmunoBody, Covidity . Can we just give the politics a rest at least for the next couple of days or take the discussion to the general chat forum?

We already know that Scancell have applied to the UKRI for grant funding for the Covidity project. The link below gives more detail of the whole process, what's required, timelines etc. As you can see, applications go through at least a 2 stage review - firstly by a group of experts who are selected specifically for the subject matter of the application and then by a second panel who will make recommendations.

Fortunately, the Government won't be deciding whether or not Scancell receive a grant but a panel of experts who will fully understand the science and the aims of the project. On that basis, if Covidity is living up to expectations in preclinical development then Scancell should receive funding and for that reason there's every reason to be optimistic.

I'm not sure it's right to say that they'll be using the same delivery system as SCIB2. I think Scancell have already confirmed that they're using lipid nanoparticles for SCIB2 which afaik requires a simple injection as opposed to gold nanoparticles delivered with a gene gun for Covidity. In any case the Sky piece seems to suggest that the gold delivery method will be replaced.

David Evans - have no idea whether David ever looks in here but feel we should thank him for engaging and indeed paying for the services of Amanda Hayhurst who arranged this coverage.

There seems to be a general perception here that electroporation must be pretty uncomfortable and much support for the move to a lipid nanoparticle delivery system for SCIB2. Having said that, as far as I know, we've never actually seen any research into the real life experience of electroporation from a patient's point of view.

Results have recently been published of a phase I study looking at repeated electroporation of a DNA vaccine using the Ichor Trigrid device. The aim of the trial was to look at the acceptability and tolerability of electroporation and it produced some interesting findings. There's also a good description of exactly how the device is administered.

Worth noting that they seemed to be using the mark 1 device and that Scancell are using the updated/improved mark 2 device and that each patient on the SCIB1 trial will receive 2 shots at a time (one in arm and one in thigh).

As far as I can see, the research shows that whilst it's clearly not a pleasant experience, most patients find it bearable and some even preferred it to a standard injection. Nevertheless, good that there is now the option of an alternative delivery method for SCIB2.

I believe it was actually Richard Hayhurst who was originally engaged by David Evans and who was responsible for the coverage in The Times at the end of April/start of May. This ADVFN post on 29th April from David Evans explains more:-

This was my own initiative paid for by myself and when I saw the RNS announcement I just felt I had been chopped off at the knees. However I am resilient if nothing else and I have continued to work with Richard and his former wife to see if we can get some traction - let us see what happens.'

Think we must be misunderstanding each other. I wasn't talking about raising for COVID either. No matter, let's just hope that Scancell can quickly get back to Moditope and ImmunoBody and get those trials up and running.

An alternative view would be that pre-revenue bios have to raise when they can secure the best terms at the best price and that's usually on the back of good news. So I don't have an issue with any of the bios you mentioned carrying out a funding round following COVID-19 announcements, in fact you could argue that it was in the best interests of existing shareholders to minimise dilution.

Sadly, I think the real problem is that the response to Scancell's COVID-19 announcement was simply not good enough (in terms of share price) to facilitate a fundraise - the rise was too small and too short lived.

Scancell won't be taking part, it's a high level fundraising conference to encourage nations to pledge cash. The primary aim of GAVI is make vaccines available to the poorest nations to ensure worldwide coverage. I can't see how it relates to Scancell at all other than very loosely in that they will probably discuss coverage of any COVID-19 vaccines.

Good to see Amryt exectuing their strategy to grow Myalpeta sales in Europe. Also part of that strategy was a label expansion in the US to include Partial Lipodystrophy with discussions due to take place with the FDA in H2 so still more potential in both US and Europe.

It should be relatively cheap, easy and quick to run a small phase I trial in healthy volunteers. The big question is - what then?

You're correct, we don't know the efficacy of Modi1 yet - but we have excellent results from SCIB1 in small patient numbers and yet...…………..……………………….

I completely agree. IMO Scancell simply don't have the infrastructure or the ability to raise sufficient funds to take any of the pipeline beyond a phase I/IIa trial and the investment case here is either a licensing deal or sale. Time will tell!

Achillies Therapeutics announced this morning that they have dosed the first patient in their melanoma clinical trial which is recruiting in both Manchester and Newcastle. This is a really positive sign and shows that cancer trials in the UK are getting going again.

Very much hope that Scancell can quickly get back to their core business and put everything they have into getting recruitment started in the UK for SCIB1 and study centres agreed for the US. Would also be great to have an update on Moditope, in particular where they are with manufacture and the impact of COVID-19 on timescales.
