I think every bio I've ever invested in has issued an RNS on dosing the first patient in a clinical trial. The news this morning marks an important milestone in the progress of this study and the development of MRx0518 and it's quite right and proper that it should be communicated to the market via RNS .

Worth having a quick read of the RNS from DDDD who are also running a phase I/II clinical trial in combination with Keytruda. Good to see that MD Anderson (Texas) have recruited and dosed the first patients to part 2 of their trial. They are also opening 4 additional study centres in the US.

A positive sign that trials are resuming and recruiting and that hospitals in the US are willing to commence new trials. Hopefully, Scancell will now be able to get the SCIB1 study up and running as quickly as possible.

Good to see recruitment to Part B of the trial and the opening of additional study centres which should help to mitigate any COVID-19 impact on speed of recruitment .

The patients in the first part of the trial all have advanced metastatic disease and have already failed to respond to previous treatment with PD1/L1 checkpoint inhibitors and SOC treatment (if different). Very positive to see that 5 of the 12 patients remain on treatment.

That's the whole point, you're correct, it was a new article which simply was regurgitating old (very) news under the title of 'latest news'.

I don't know whether it was simply poor journalism or there may have been some other motive but if you came away with the impression that another massive handout had been thrown at the Oxford/Imperial projects, then I'm sure many others did too. The quality of reporting during this pandemic has ranged from excellent to completely fake news and you just can't take anything at face value any more.

Of course what they could have reported is that the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine has produced some promising early results, that first patients have now been dosed in the Imperial Trial, that the Oxford vaccine has now been given to over 8000 patients in the UK and the trial is also running in Brazil and South Africa, that there are at least 18 different vaccines worldwide in clinical trials,..................that real progress is being made on many fronts at an incredible pace.

I'm not sure I'd even call it an article - it's literally just a copy and paste of sections of old articles cobbled together and therefore it's now either old news, untrue or simply inaccurate.

For example the £84m isn't new funding, it was taken from an old announcement nearly 2 months ago and part of the historical funding package. The Imperial vaccine is now in clinical trials and dosing patients, I think the Oxford/AZN vaccine has now been given to over 8000 patients in the UK not the 500 mentioned in the article.

It should be called old news mixed together in no particular order. Shockingly poor and lazy journalism.

Good to see another rise here today, Amryt's market cap has increased by £100m in a couple of months.

Sorry but I just don't buy this idea that somehow shareholders are being unreasonably impatient because they don't understand the science. Scancell are fortunate in that they have many shareholders who have been incredibly patient over the last 5 years. By all means defend the Company by explaining the delays but please don't blame the shareholders.

Inanaco - yes the principle of viral vectors sounds simple ie. using viruses to deliver genetic material into human cells but it's so complex. To do list:-

1) Modify the vector to make sure it doesn't infect the host with the original virus.
2) Ensure it will 'infect' only the cells you want it to and not healthy cells
3) Ensure it will dump its genetic load in the correct place

Genetic engineering is another world and I have no intention of trying to understand it at anything other than a very, very basic level.

I hope that anyone watching was able to put thoughts of Scancell to one side, look beyond and make a balanced, objective judgement. The purpose of the session was fact finding - to help with planning and understanding what the Country may be facing over the coming months. It was inevitable that they would focus on the Oxford vaccine as it will be the first in the world to complete phase III trials and therefore potentially the first available vaccine. Kate Bingham mentioned several times that they had a portfolio of other vaccines for future development.

On a really serious note, if you don't get a chance to watch, one issue that was raised was the possibility of a combination of a COVID-19 spike and a bad flu season so please make sure you get your flu jab this year.

I'm not sure whether it's still available. If so, perhaps give it a go. You may come away feeling a little reassured that a massive effort is being put into finding, manufacturing and delivering therapies and vaccines for the whole of the UK. Kate Bingham (Chair of Vaccines Taskforce) came across as a lady at the top of her game and certainly knows her stuff.

I think I have only ever emailed Lindy Durrant twice and the first time was to ask exactly that. ie. the possibilities of creating an mRNA vaccine for Moditope. Her reply was that it was possible but that because Moditope exploits PTMs then peptide vaccines are much more effective.

I don't know - I've just started looking at it as an area potentially worth investing in. It is possible because there are companies doing it from a simple blood draw. As we both have said, it might not be possible to take it to the level of home testing as I think they require a standard blood draw of 8ml and finger prick testing obviously won't do the job.

Anyway moving back to Scancell (sort of), I noticed that BioNTech/Pfizer are using a lipid nanoparticles for delivery of their COVID vaccine, link to company supplying them is below.
