The talks in Islamabad were never going to sort everything out on day one…pretty much impossible. Obama’s deal took 18 months..for context (albeit there was not direct hostilities). Will Trump blockade the Strait?.I can’t see it. Diesel in the States is up 40% in a month. Why does this matter, well 70% roughly of freight in the States is moved by truckers. One freight operator in the ‘rust belt’ has seen his fleet of 35 trucks, bills going up from $97k in Feb to nearly $150k in March. These are the MAGA crew and they ain’t happy. Food prices will be up also.
Talks will no doubt continue and this ‘sparring’ reminds me of the fights in schools in the 80’s, where rumours spread about Bill wanting to smash Ben’s face in because he nicked his Doris and large crowds gather at the ‘tuck’ shop, but nothing happens, then at lunch and again nothing happens then the big finale at the school gates accumulates to a slap here and there, then a smirk and handshake and then the next few days everyone else is talking about who won…..my point is the build up to the end is the more volatile than the actual ending....you don’t spend 21 hours talking about the same thing over and over again. There is movement and I suspect like most of us I would rather be in this position this weekend than we were last weekend! Not going to talk about the politics or the rights and wrongs of this war and I am not trivialising this war by using the example above either. It's all just very sad.
