Some really strange SP movement late afternoon .... particularly that rapid drop !

most traders discipline is to not be holding over a weekend and especially more so during current economic climate where a few hours of geographic market lag can make a huge difference.

you also need to consider news is due Monday on a corporate front and if you add in the Russia / Saudi meeting throwing up another uncertain curve ball outcome who could blame them as its already been a great week

as for the usual suspects chanting last chance to get aboard at this price and that FOMO of £10 or £15 or £20 next week what's all that about when its at home ?

I suppose it takes all sorts to make a market but surely sense and sensibility says its always better to get on the train going in the right direction and not one that could (through no fault of the companies) end up heading the other way :)

LONDON (Reuters) - The world's top oil and gas companies are rushing to raise tens of billion of dollars in debt to help them weather one of the worst downturns in the sector's history while faced with high fixed costs and looming dividend payments. Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Total, Equinor and OMV have all tapped bond markets this week, raising more than $10 billion according to Reuters calculations.

Oil prices sank 65% in the first three months of the year to lows of $22 a barrel as strict movement restrictions imposed around the world to limit the spread of the corona virus led to a collapse in demand for transportation fuels, while a fight for market share between top producers Saudi Arabia and Russia accelerated price falls.

The top five so-called oil majors saw their combined debt rise to $230 billion last year as they borrowed to maintain capital spending while giving back billions to shareholders. This week's forays into the bond markets come after Exxon Mobil raised $8.5 billion last month, while Shell also announced a $12 billion revolving credit facility this week.
"All the majors are shoring up liquidity to cover mid-term requirements. No one wants to be at the back of the queue," said a banker involved in debt raising. "The companies want to demonstrate they are able to ride out the storm," he added.
The European bond issues were all reported to be over-subscribed despite credit agencies downgrading the ratings or ratings outlooks of the oil majors in recent days. A Shell spokeswoman said the debt raising was "part of actively managing our liquidity, in addition to our additional credit facility". OMV confirmed the tranches. BP and Total did not respond to requests for comment. Equinor said on Wednesday the bond would "strengthen our financial resilience and flexibility".

The oil majors are expected to report sharp drops in revenue in the first quarter with analysts saying some would need to borrow money to cover spending and dividend payouts. Although the recent collapse in prices is now forcing them to sharply scale back discretionary spending, none have so far indicated an intention to reduce dividends, although investors and analysts said they might be forced to in case of a protracted downturn.

How anyone can Begrudge the Directors taking warrants in Lieu of wages, is beyond me, they have invested millions of thier own cash into this project, at well above current Sp, everyone has the same opportunity, its not thier fault the oil price has crashed, and the project delayed due to the low oil price, if i wasnt invested in other oil stocks , i would be investing in here at this low Sp, it looks to me as if the project will eventually get off the ground, i may come back later for a few,

IMO next quarters dividend 'might' be reduced from normal levels (and again it might not) but it certainly won't be stopped

forecasting 3rd and 4th quarter dividends is way to early to say as it will all depend on any oil price and whats happening in the wider markets much nearer the time

I'd be quite happy to see another re-trace below 300p next week but if by some miracle an agreement should come out of any Trump / Putin / Saudi discussions about production in the coming days, its hard to see it going back into the 2's again, but with the whole world in an almost total lock down, absolutely anything could yet be possible

the only LT shareholders making money here are Sam and Stuart given they only ever pay the equivalent of one third of the share price when topping up their feed trough.

if it ever came to a vote, I think there are probably a lot of long term and disappointed shareholders here that might just be willing and prepared to sacrifice their entire investment by losing everything in a winding up order / loss of licence / liquidation / whatever scenario, rather than see those 2 leeches ever get a single cent profit out of all those freebies they have accumulated over the years of delivering absolutely nothing.

with oil price looking as though it could be heading back into the mid teens or lower its beginning to mirror the original 1998 campaign era all over again and with that in mind I wonder just how many long term 2010 post discovery day shareholders will still be around in another 12 years ?

using leverage and chasing the proverbial penny share dream will always be the number one stocks and shares failure factor for most PI's when the going gets tough in a bear market

cash and having enough of it to survive any economic or financial market meltdown will always be king

looks like the reality of that massively trumpeted (underwhelming) deal of yesterday will be left to slowly sink in over the weekend for some while those that trumpeted it have already left the building

hey you never know one day PH might deliver something that is physically deliverable and profitable instead of hot air but I'm also pretty sure he's not in any particular rush given his salary and benefits :)

IMO has nothing to do with divi being paid as qualification period for that was back in Feb so I reckon its much more to do with what was happening across the pond (overnight whilst LSE was shut) in the US and again the Asian markets this morning (whilst LSE was still shut) as they are both showing a similar % drop across similar type equities.

POO is also slowly drifting sideways one minute and downwards the next in a sort of 1 step forward 2 steps back pattern :)

however if I am to look on the longer term bright side I might just get next years ISA funds all spent early doors at sub 300p next week after all

LTT don't think anyone (not least me) is really saying SL will be 'cancelled' per se, however it has certainly (although not officially announced) been delayed by at least 12-18 months, therefore the original schedule and all those tenders for commencing 2021 drilling operations now becomes 2022-2023 at the earliest and given the speed of any return to drilling (based on past oil price crash examples) its nearer 2 or 3 years before finance is again made available and every companies annual capital budgets are re-submitted and re-approved but all of that depends on an oil price that supports a profitable development or capital expenditure and although I get what you are trying to convey about oil companies should or would be taking a longer view on pricing they can only ever go on the 'here and now' as nobody knows what the price will be 3 or 4 or more years out.

so just to repeat, I'm not saying SL will be cancelled full stop, however unlike existing or new shareholders who are pinning their hopes on an imminent FID announcement or a favourable OM outcome and substantial award to help the SP recover, I'm afraid that particular (yes no maybe) risk is just not for me.

personally I'd rather wait and see where we are in 3 or 6 months time with the oil price and the control of this disease and any of its knock on effects in the supply chain before making any new junior oil investments but that's just me so each to their own.
