yes well given the world is all but at a standstill and oil prices continue to drop, I do agree bugsy one option could be to cut back or cease production altogether rather than continue to pump it out at a loss however strictly speaking that is never going to happen or be GKP's choice to make as they don't contractually do any of the marketing or the selling

so that (in your own words) pretty much sums up what some people have been saying all along about GKP being just a puppet contractor who gets paid (or in some cases 'might' get paid) once the oil has been sold by the real owners and decision makers

anyway I wonder if JF will use Covid-19 as an excuse for the delay in the signing of the highly promoted and much improved PSC or maybe he can blame Putin for the failure to achieve the 55 bopd which was originally promised for 2019 or maybe he can blame the Saudi's for his failure to deliver pretty much anything that has been promised to shareholders on time since his rein began other than the continued awarding of senior managements performance bonuses

alas the crux of the matter is it doesn't really matter who is in the top seat as they will always be just a puppet on a string, however for shareholders I am sure it could be a much better puppet that shows their face in public from time to time or says and does the right things for shareholders rather than the current one who has been sticking to a tiresome and recurring theme of hiding away in the background, being somewhat economical with the truths and as records have shown over the years, has a habit of over promising and under delivering whilst keeping his own snout very much in the trough !!

but the thing is slurry, GKP weren't getting paid what they were contractually owed long before Covid-19 or the Rusky Saudi war on words started so not sure how you claim that those delays can be justified

if you are looking for some sort of explanation as to why it didn't drop, you need to look around you at the bigger global picture with a slight improvement in market sentiment for oil given there are rumours of possible further cuts to follow and the US considering paying producers to keep it in the ground however if you look at it more closely BP actually lagged other oilers on the day so when measured against its peers and considering a general market uplift nothing much appears to be wrong other than it didn't go up in line with its peers as it perhaps it should have :)

can I ask if you are holding out for 280p or less as an initial entry point or is it to add to an existing position ?

reason I ask is having 280p as a specific target price (or less) doesn't make sense to me either as an initial entry or an addition to an existing pot

personally I'm quite happy to add at any number under 300p and hold for the inevitable oil price recovery as whether its 6 or 12 or 18 months or more it will recover and so will the SP as I've been here (cyclical bear markets) before albeit this is far far bigger than any routine (end of bull run) peg back

GL but personally I wouldn't be waiting for a specific target number, as you will never pick the absolutes (top or bottom) so for me I prefer to ease myself into a share in stages ... IF it drops further (and you are convinced its wrongly priced or it will indeed recover) then you either hold and add more or (if not convinced) cut your loss early and bail

LIFO - my golden anagram
being Last In (joining when its moving in the right direction) and being First Out (when its starting to show signs of slowing down or going in wrong direction) is making sure you are leaving some profit on the table for the next player and you won't go too far wrong

and if you lose on your trade (or miss it) then you need to have no regrets with no looking back and definitely no emotions - its only money and you need to have the conviction that there will always ALWAYS be another trade to be had on another day or on another share - that's the market for you - never chase it and never be greedy and you might just survive to play another day

lastly in the current market climate CAPITAL PRESERVATION (not profit) is king
