I think Tobacco is a bit more one dimensional, and there IS a viable alternative ie, vapes, niccotine replacement or just quit.
I found it really hard to quit the smokes but I know I can't quit oil and neither can the rest of the world.
The green narrative is fine and clean air in cities is needed but there is no way to replace our dependence on oil.
Electric cars are over 100 years old and Lithium batteries are close to 50 years old !
The main problem I see with electric is the energy loses from generating to end use. For Gasoline / Diesel total energy losses are estimated to be 70% in electric energy losses are 90%
Besides there are not enough Rare Earth Minerals in the world to replace the 2 billion ICE vehicles that currently exist.
