For Info, Seneca bought back into Opti during the last fundraise

OptiBiotix Health Plc (“Opti”)

The B share pool originally invested in Opti in April 2020 and was able

to achieve a successful full exit in 2023 due to positive progress made in

the business and an increase in share price allowing Seneca to achieve a

1.4x return for shareholders. Following our exit, the AIM market, and in

particular Opti’s share price, began to decline despite continued positive

trading performance. Opti was seeking finance for a new product launch

and to fund continued commercial progress across existing products.

Presented with the opportunity to reinvest in a business well-known to

Seneca, which continues to demonstrate strong year-on-year revenue

growth with improved margins at a favourable valation, Seneca invested

£336k from the VCT and £214k from its EIS funds. Opti successfully raised

a total of £1.4 million as part of the fundraise.

"Cecile Jonchier says in the video: "After four years of research to develop the project related to a high potential natural ingredient for the cosmetic market, we have now reached the last stage of this project, meaning the investigation of clinical trials. It's taken Sederma and Croda 5 years to produce an optimised scaled up version of the lab lysate so Modi will not be manufacturing it any time soon. Just as well it does take so long to scale-up with rival bacteria based skin products waiting in the wings

Andrew, I have already commented on the disappointing but expected 2023 revenues, 2024 should be better, aided by Dr Morepen launch towards the end of 2024 and early sweetbiotix soft launches but not spectacularly so. However, the promise of an early launch of sweetbiotix with any brand such as Coca Cola/kellogg's etc will lead to a huge re-rate in the share price irrespective of the initial revenue that results from it as it means sweetbiotix has passed FDA GRAS and clean label classification opening the door to much bigger launches going forward.

Problem is Opti has not got the marketing budget to make a prolonged difference to sales. The brief marketing campaign to piggy back on the weight loss drug news led to Slimbiome® Medical being branded as being "consistently in the top best sellers for anti-appetite-suppressant products and achieved its highest sales in online history during Prime month in July 2023 of just over £13k". This was replicated in the online store where I have tracked order numbers for some time, and during that period average weekly orders rose from the 30s-50s to 70s and 80s before quickly falling back to the 30s-50s range once the marketing money ran out. regarding influencers, note the following from the RNS "Gummy sales in China during the year varied widely per month, increasing rapidly in October and November with the aid of local key opinion leader influencers and new sales through the TikTok platform.
