No, but I'm at least trying to understand. As you seem to have some idea and mentioned the limitations of the DP system in poor weather, I'd be interested to know your thoughts on optimum weather conditions: ie. moon tide/ swell / wave height / cross currents etc.

It may seem ridiculous to you to read some of the speculation on here - but many of us are genuinely interested.

On the complexities of rope/tension:

It's going to be made of steel wire, and it'll likely have man made cores, the actual type of steel and the build of the rope and how it's laid depends on many things: the corrosion resistance required, whether the rope is required to be wound over a pulley or drum under load, the radius of such pulley or drum, the safe working load required, normal operating temperature range required, ...

There is no "perfect" steel for wire rope, because (for example) when you change the composition of the steel for more flexibility, you'll get less strength, it's always the best compromise for the application. It's just "a length of rope" but building wire rope is as complicated as building a structure.

The Grampian Dynamic is a SAR (Search and Rescue) and has to be there by regulations - nothing to do with hook up operations other than standby for crew safety (I believe and can be corrected). The Grampian Sovereign is a supply ship - keeping the crew alive! As to the other 'tugs' not specified on AIS - not likely to be related as not required for hook up so nothing to worry about as far as I'm aware on that score. Shipwatcher Grade Z- but an enthusiast nonetheless.

Yobbo where are you looking? On MT this is the position - right on top of buoy.

That was exactly my point to Ifonly and The Street.

Yes - however, if you already have a low average and the share you hold is reaching critical milestones and likely to rise exponentially in the near future I believe it's not worth the risk.

I'm not really trying to prescribe what's right or wrong here - but trying to highlight the actual cost to most folk of short term trading whereas if they held and gradually derisked their original investment leaving 'free' shares to ride the risk they'd be significantly better off.

In fairness this applies to anyone saying 'sell now, make a quick buck' and Ifonly wasn't the only one promoting this yesterday on this or other boards, I don't like to see people lose money and this strategy only really works effectively (for most people) if you have a lot of money to begin with and sound experience in trading. By that I mean you'd do better to hold in the long run if you've done your homework and the fundamentals are sound.

Nope not me, (as far as I recall) not a question I'd need to ask but it's been a long few days it's possible I've forgotten!

Forgive me everyone else. If only I really hope you read this because it might save you some money. Some calculations on the benefits of LTH versus trading in and out based on a £10,000 investment at 0.46p:

Take If Only’s advice:
Buy 10000 @ 46p = 4600. Then sell 5000 @ 50p = 2500. You now have 5000 shares left at a profit of 4% or £200 profit.
Buy more shares!!! = (if you’re lucky you get to buy back at 48/49p)
So £200 / 0.48 (being generous) = 417 shares. You now have 5417 shares - 4583 shares less than you had at the start. And now it will cost you 50p each to buy them back - have you made a profit or a loss?
Alternatively do the maths:
Buy 10000 @46p = 4600. Hold 10000 until SP is £1. Sell 4,600 @ £1 (bought at £2116 for 46p each) = £4600
Profit = over 50% - (£2484 profit)
Shares left = 5,400
Then, step 2: Take your remaining 5,400 shares (remember original cost 46p x 5400= £2484)
Sell half of them - 2850 for £2 = £5700. Profit = £3216. (over 50%)
Profit so far: £5700 with 2850 shares left. Half those and sell at £3, and so on …
