May 15 (Reuters) - Vice Media Group, popular for websites such as Vice and Motherboard, filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday to engineer its sale to a group of lenders, capping years of financial difficulties and top-executive departures.
The bankruptcy filing is a fallout of a challenging period for many technology and media companies that have been cutting costs to survive a weak advertising market amid slowing economic growth...
Not sure if this relates to us or not? On the one hand it hints at a sector wide problem but it may just be one badly run operation blaming anything but themselves. Either way, their portfolio is up for grabs!
Thank you for sharing your opinions. Tho heads better than one and all that. I was guessing that the market had some concerns because Sir Martin felt it necessary to dedicate a whole paragraph of his comments in the 1st qtr results to the subject.
Is A.I. a threat to S4? And is this issue contributing to the poor share price performance and downgrades?
Hopefully, I am as wrong as can be for even pondering this but A.I., even in its embryonic state, is mind boggling. It can already write a script for an advert with very little input from the lowest paid clerk in any company. It can generate images and come up with catchy slogans. For free! It can learn anything that has ever been put on the internet and utilise it to create your project. In no time at all it will be generating everything on a home PC that companies are charging for now.
Or not. I'm quite confused. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Having presided over a share price collapse from £8.70 to sub £1.40, Sir Martin may have to consider handing the reins to his No.2 sooner rather than later. I honestly think the markets would welcome a change at the top all things considered.
Just a couple of points from SMS in the Annual Report that may explain the lackluster share price performance.
"Data&Digital Media saw operational EBITDA reduce significantly in 2022 against a strong comparative in 2021. Net revenue growth, although good, was lower than expected in the second half and costs ran ahead of growth. Corrective actions are
being taken"
"In 2023 there will be a cash outflow relating to 2022 and prior year combinations, with net debt expected to rise as a result".
How much will debt increase by? I think some posters on here have been expecting debt to fall this year?
Hi Nige,
I took profits at £2.23 then kicked myself when it had a go at £2.50. I honestly thought it would never go under £2.00 again after S4 broke the £1B sales threshold. I bought in again at £1.74 and once again, I am kicking myself! Thankfully, I have some dry powder waiting if the decline persists.
I hope I am wrong wanting Sir Martin to have a rest and he is far better than how the RNS reads between the lines.
Publicis and Wpp see Ad spend sustained... Good news for the sector.

On a separate note, I would like to see Sir Marten take a sabbatical and hand the reins to his second-in-command so he can focus 100% on getting back to full strength. As it stands, I don't see how he can be anything but distracted.
Very exciting times for S4. You feel the cork could pop at any time. So many opportunities to grow into. It seems inevitable their market share will increase which, at current levels (below 1%) already generates £1B!!!!
I'm a happy camper here.
Very positive news from India. It looks like the stars may be aligning for S4. The chart shows that we are crossing the 200 day Moving average which hasn't happened since April 2020. After that the 50 day moving average should cross as well which is a strong indicator of a surge North.
With the GLG position being below 0.5% (just...) how will we know when the close it? Will they notify the market? Will S4 notify the market? Also, when GLG do close the short, will they then go long on S4. Do any of our posters here have experience in this field?
Another brilliant union. Great news.

From this site...
'There are currently no open short positions in S4 Cap..'
Is this right?
Like everyone else, I was dumbfounded as to what GLG were thinking with their contrary position. Have they seen sense and closed their short?
On a different note, the results this morning have far exceeded what I was expecting. Well done to all at S4. I wish I had bought more at sub £2....
Impressive shake of the tree over the past couple of days. When there is no fundamental reason behind it, these sharp declines sometimes signal the last chance to buy cheap. We have all seen it in the charts. A share we wish we had bought and there, just before it went through the roof, is that tell-tale last tick down.
Yes I am a glass half full trader, but we know that the next tree months for S4 are going to be good. The market knows they are going to be good. The directors who bought in recently, have pretty much proved it as well.
I will be buying this dip but of course, do your own research and base it on money you can afford to lose.
Good luck
