Just to clarify the update by Blackrock and Voleon on Friday as there's some confusion, both crossed threshold day before bid was announced but notified yesterday, I would have replied on ADVFN but Edge has updated deleting stored passwords ..doh!!

It feels like the US markets are dragging everyone else down, not sure I would be that unhappy to see NASDAQ quote go tbh, that said US did recover leaving HCM at London close price.

My own view is these bids are not being taken seriously due to the bidders profiles, they don't really make sense hence the market although responding is a little perplexed.

There's no doubt THG is attracting a lot of speculative interest and it could be management have decided to entertain these publicly in order to shore up the share price, don't forget the clock is ticking on separating out divisions which are highly dependant on market valuations to make commercial sense.

I don't think there is a chance the BOD will sell out at all, this is just playing the city at their own game.

This mornings bid will have breached both Blackrock and Voleons risk management, once that happens the position is taken away to be closed by back office staff as best they can, its certainly not a case of keep throwing more borrowed stock at it hoping it falls back.

It maybe even tighter now as I am talking pre-2008 crash.

Going to be some red faces at Blackrock getting hit both ways, down and now up - silver lining is we now have more guaranteed buyers waiting to buy shares oh hum..

Didn't they come out with a supportive statement after selling down their holding, took a bath on that too followed by a quick 25% haircut on their short lol

Yup, many parallels with Homeserve, just gave up on UK listing valuing the company properly.

During the recent results on 21st April, CEO confirmed;

" The Board has concluded that each and every proposal to date has been unacceptable, failing to reflect the fair value of the Group, and confirms that THG is not currently in receipt of any approaches."

So can we assume these are fresh approaches and/or new bidders? that would spice things up a bit as you have effectively two groups, interested to see if US Private Equity pops up as before.

Incidentally, M&C Saatchi PLC received bid this morning which gives an idea of general M A activity.

Institution's can't buy in the market, stocks like THG are effectively closed books meaning volume dealing has to go via a broker.

If you went on the book in any size your dealing desks phone would ring in under a minute.

UK market making is governed by 'first in, first dealt' basis so you would end up joining existing orders queue.

Lets see if Mr Lefei Sun can add another dimension to Hutchmed, he has the credentials to really make things happen, also an outside from parent company.
