Ryanair And Wizz Air Passenger Traffic Shrinks Further In November

(Alliance News) - Budget airline Ryanair Holdings PLC on Wednesday posted a severe year-on-year fall in passenger numbers in November, as did central and eastern Europe-focused airline Wizz Air Holdings PLC, caused by renewed travel restrictions.

For November, Ryanair reported a 82% fall in passenger numbers to 2.0 million from 10.9 million a year before. This also reflected a deterioration from October, when passenger numbers had fallen by 70% year-on-year.

On a rolling annual basis, passenger numbers dropped by 60% at 151.6 million.

For the same month, Wizz Air reported a 85% decline in passenger numbers to 456,487 from 3.0 million a year before. Capacity was reduced by 79% to 669,139 seats from 3.2 million a year before, but load factor still fell by 24.5 percentage points to 68.2% from 92.8%.

In October, Wizz Air's passenger numbers fell by 69% year-on-year to 1.1 million.

For the rolling 12 months to the end of November, Wizz Air's passenger numbers dropped by 51% to 19.3 million. Capacity was reduced by 41% to 24.8 million seats.

Shares in Ryanair were down 1.6% at EUR15.56, while Wizz Air shares were 1.2% lower at 4,520.00 pence in London on Wednesday.
