RELX brings its AI to law firms' data with Henchman tech deal

Mon, 03rd Jun 2024 12:00

LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - LexisNexis, the legal intelligence firm owned by RELX, said on Monday it had agreed to buy Belgium tech company Henchman to help bring its generative AI capabilities to its law firm customers' in-house data.

The London-listed group is paying about $160 million, according to sources close to the deal.

LexisNexis launched Lexis+ AI in October, adding conversational search and intelligent legal drafting and summaries to its products.

Mike Walsh, chief executive of LexisNexis Legal & Professional, said ever since then its customers had wanted the ability to connect their in-house products to it.

"Now, we'll be able to address one of our legal customers' top requests – to have searchable internal firm data combined with our current drafting and AI offerings," he said.

RELX has 10 generative AI products across its businesses, which also include scientific information and risk management solutions.
