(Alliance News) - Greatland Gold PLC on Tuesday said drilling has begun at its wholly-owned Scallywag licence in Western Australia.
Drilling will test the first of several new targets identified by geophysical analysis, the company said.
The copper and gold focused miner said the programme will investigate Swan, A34, A35 and A36 conductors identified by its heliborne electromagnetic survey.
The company said additional nearby targets - Architeuthis, Teach and Barbossa West - were identified by ongoing geological studies including aeromagnetic and gravity data.
The company hopes to discover a large-scale intrusion of gold-copper deposits intrusion, similar to those at the nearby Havieron, Telfer and Winu projects.
The first pass program includes eight holes extending over 4,500 metres in total, Greatland added.
Chief Executive Shaun Day says: "We are excited to have commenced our drilling campaign at Scallywag, which is focused on a number of high-priority targets in ground adjacent to Havieron. These targets have been selected due to their compelling geological characteristics borne out across multiple datasets and analysis, particularly the [electromagnetic] survey conducted last year."
Shares in Greatland Gold were trading up 2.2% at 17.38 pence each in London on Tuesday morning.
