Former Post Office CEO Vennells leaves Morrisons and Dunelm boards

Mon, 26th Apr 2021 08:45

(Alliance News) - Embattled former Post Office boss Paula Vennells has stepped down from the boards of both grocer Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC and homewares retailer Dunelm Group PLC.

The news comes amid widespread criticism of the handling of the Horizon scandal, when reports of a faulty IT system at the Post Office were not properly probed.

It meant hundreds of subpostmasters, those in charge of branches of the Post Office, were prosecuted amid allegations of theft and fraud as a result of the faulty Horizon system. On Friday, some subpostmasters had their convictions overturned.

Vennells has stepped down from the boards of Wm Morrison and Dunelm with immediate effect.

Dunelm shares were 0.6% higher at 1,458.00 pence each in London on Monday morning. Morrisons was up 0.1% at 179.50p.
