Facebook to fight climate change fake news with new information hub

Tue, 15th Sep 2020 08:19

(Sharecast News) - Facebook is set to launch a new information hub to provide its users with "science-based information" about climate change and eliminate fake news from its platform.
The company announced the new information hub on Monday night and said that a link to the hub will appear when people search for information related to climate change on Facebook, or when people see certain posts related to the subject.

The initiative comes after fake news was spread on the platform on the ongoing wildfires in California. Fake news on the subject was shared over 63,000 times, reported The Guardian.

The company also said it would be flagging similar posts containing misinformation but it did not specify if it would remove said posts.

The new feature is called the Climate Science Information Center, and it will provide users with facts, figures and data from factual sources.

Facebook's Climate Science Information Center will go out to users in the US, UK, France and Germany first and it will appear in more markets "soon," the company said in its post.
