EDF checking anomalies in nuclear component manufacturing

PARIS, Sept 10 (Reuters) - France's EDF said onTuesday it was investigating anomalies reported by engineeringand construction firm Framatome in its manufacturing of somenuclear reactor components, which did not meet technicalstandards.

"Framatome has informed EDF of a deviation from technicalstandards governing the manufacture of nuclear-reactorcomponents," EDF said in a statement.

Components currently in use as well as some that had not yetbeen installed on any sites were affected, EDF said, adding thatit had been investigating to ensure all reactors and componentswere fit for service.

The anomalies concern weldings on some steam generators.

"EDF informed the French nuclear regulatory authority of itsinitial investigations," the power group said. "EDF will provideadditional information as characterisation work progresses."(Reporting by Benjamin Mallet, Writing by Sarah White, Editingby Richard Lough)
