(Sharecast News) - Stobart Group's airline division will begin to fly passengers from City Airport as a franchise for British Airways later this month.
Stobart said it would lease two Embraer 190 jets and hire 40 new pilots and cabin crew after it won a contract to supply aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance services with the IAG subsidiary .
The franchise deal will mean Stobart Air operate routes to and from London City airport under the BA CityFlyer brand from 16 November for three years.
Stobart will recruit 10 captains and first officers as well as 30 cabin crew, with the leasing of Embraer narrow-body aircraft under an agreement with Ireland's Nordic Aviation Capital.
"A key part of our growth strategy is to secure additional commercial relationships with airlines," said Graeme Buchanan, managing director of Stobart Air. "This agreement with BA CityFlyer allows us to further diversify the brands we work with."
Stobart already runs franchise routes for Flybe out of London City airport.
