Cohort PLC - Reading, England-based technology company with five businesses serving defence and security sectors - Turns to a pretax profit in the half-year that ended October 31. Swings to pretax profit of GBP1.1 million from a loss of GBP1.7 million a year prior. Revenue surges 29% to GBP77.5 million from GBP60.0 million. Cost of sales increase 37% to GBP53.2 million from GBP38.9 million. Declares interim dividend of 4.25 pence per share, up 10% from 3.85p. Looking ahead, outlook remains unchanged with a "record" high order book of GBP304.2 million at October 31, up 4.5% from GBP291.0 million at April 30. "Overall, we continue to see a positive outlook for organic growth in the years ahead," says Chair Nick Prest.

Adds this is a four-year extension to a contract that MASS has been undertaking for the past 15 years. Chief Executive Andrew Thomis says: "MASS's specialist expertise enables customers to get the very best out of their electronic warfare capability. This contract extension further strengthens our order book and enhances the visibility of the group's revenues in this financial year and beyond."

Under the agreement, SEA will provide systems and equipment upgrade of the anti-submarine warfare and countermeasures systems on some of the platforms "crucial" to the Royal Navy. It will also provide in-service support for these systems across the naval fleet for a period of five years with the option to further extend for two years.
