HOUSTON, March 1 (Reuters) - Work was continuing on Sundayto restart the 110,000 barrel per day (bpd) crude distillationunit (CDU) at BP Plc's 413,500 bpd Whiting, Indiana,refinery, said sources familiar with plant operations.
The CDU, which is the second largest crude unit at therefinery was shut on Wednesday by a malfunction. Since then therefinery has worked to return the CDU to production. The repairswere expected to take a "few days," sources familiar with plantoperations said on Thursday.
The other two CDUs at the refinery have remained inoperation while the 110,000 bpd unit has been shut.
BP has declined to discuss the status of refinery operationssince the CDU was shut.
The Whiting refinery is one of 12 across the United Stateswhere hourly workers represented by the United Steelworkersunion (USW) are on strike for a new three-year nationalagreement on safety, wages and health care.
