Anglesey Mining Parys Mountain Report Shows Larger Tonnage Available

Thu, 05th Sep 2019 16:42

(Alliance News) - Anglesey Mining PLC said Thursday the project development and cooperation agreement signed with QME Mining Technical Services in 2018 has shown a larger tonnage of material could be available for mining at the Parys Mountain zinc, copper lead project.

Shares in Anglesey Mining closed 17% higher in London on Thursday at 2.04 pence each.

The miner also said Non-Executive Director David Lean is retiring from the firm after serving as a director for nearly 18 years. He will not stand for re-election at the company's upcoming annual general meeting.

Irish-based firm QME is conducting the optimisation study of Parys Mountain, and is currently in the second stage of the study.

"This second stage of the QME exercise is ongoing with completion scheduled for the end of 2019. Subject to financing being available, this work would then form the basis for commissioning an updated scoping or preliminary feasibility study," Anglesey said.

QME's study is building off the work of a 2017 scoping study.

That report showed a 7.0 million tonne indicated resource at a USD0 per tonne operating cost cut-off grade. At an estimated USD80 per tonne cut off, the report estimated 2.1 million tonnes. A further USD60 per tonne cut off grade showed similar levels of resources.

On Thursday, however, Anglesey, said when applying a USD48 per tonne cut off grade a "larger tonnage of material could be available for mining".

The QME work suggests 6.9 million tonnes would be available in Parys Mountain, "substantially higher" than the 2.1 million tonnes previously reported.

Anglesey continued: "Applying a 10% dilution and 98% recovery, would result in some 7.3 million tonnes being available for conversion into 'potentially mineable tonnage' within the current global resource in all categories."

"As a further refinement, QME also looked at mining criteria and developing potential stoping blocks within this 7.3 million 'potentially mineable tonnage' and in doing so eliminated some material not located in economically mineable locations. Based on these assumptions approximately 5.25 million tonnes in situ would fall within these designed stoping blocks," the company added.

Using the lower cut-off grade, Anglesey said the life of the mine could be increased to 18 years from the initial eight years indicated in 2017.

"However, it does have to be noted that by reducing the cut-off, the grade of material that would be delivered to the mill would be lower overall than that used in the 2017 scoping study," said Anglesey.

The miner added: "The economic trade-off between a longer mine life and reduced head-grade will need to be further studied to determine what, if any, would be the net financial benefit. It will then likely require further studies to determine if there is an 'optimum' cut-off grade that maximises the financial returns."

IN BRIEF: Anglesey Mining appoints Robert Marsden as new CEO from May

Anglesey Mining PLC - Mining company with operations in Wales, Sweden and Canada - Appoints Robert Marsden as new chief executive officer from May 1. He is a mining engineer with 29 years of international experience and held technical, operational and management roles at Rio Tinto PLC for 18 years. Interim Chair Andrew King says: "Having already spent some time with him at Parys Mountain, it is clear Rob has the skillset to oversee the evolution and development of Parys Mountain and, like us, he is enthused by the latest drilling results and grade continuity. As we await the assay results for drill hole NCZ003, I am very much looking forward to his input and perspective as we seek to progress both this project and the company more generally in the future." Marsden succeeds Jonathan Battershill, who retired from his role at the end of 2023 but continues on the board of the company as non-executive director.

IN BRIEF: Anglesey Mining intersects broad zone of sulphides in Wales

Anglesey Mining PLC - Base metals miner with operations in North Wales, Sweden and Canada - Provides an upbeat update on its drilling program at the Parys Mountain project on the Isle of Anglesey in north-west Wales. Says drill hole NCZ002 is recently completing with a 107-metre apparent thickness zone of visible sulphides identified between 413 metres and 520 metres downhole. Results were dispatched to ALS laboratory on Friday, with results expected in the next few weeks. "I am delighted to report that ongoing drilling of the Northern Copper Zone is confirming that Parys Mountain has a significant zone of copper dominant mineralisation within an area 600 to 700 metres along strike and 300 to 400m down dip. Widths of mineralisation appear to be averaging over 20 metres in this zone with copper equivalent grades of between 1.0 – 1.3%," says Interim Chair Andrew King.

IN BRIEF: Anglesey Mining finds copper equivalent, gold in Wales

Anglesey Mining PLC - Base metals miner with operations in North Wales, Sweden and Canada - Finds 22.0 metre intersection with 3.7% copper equivalent in hole NCZ001 in the Garth Daniel zone on Parys mountain on the Isle of Anglesey in north west Wales. Further, finds 0.7 grams of gold per tonne and 16 grams of silver per tonne at an intersection of hole NCZ001 in the northern copper zone. Interim Chair Andrew King says: "Infill drilling of these mineralised zones will play a crucial role in the development studies for Parys mountain. The primary target for this program is to provide additional pierce points to enable the current 'inferred' resources to be upgraded to the 'indicated' category. The second drill hole, NCZ002, is currently at a depth of around 360 metres with the northern copper zone target estimated to commence at a downhole depth of around 420 metres."

IN BRIEF: Anglesey Mining stock rises as Parys drilling progresses

Anglesey Mining PLC - Base metals miner with operations in North Wales, Sweden and Canada - Confirms completion on Monday of first drill hole into the Northern Copper Zone, NCZ001, at its Parys Mountain project on the Isle of Anglesey. NCZ001 was modelled to intersect two potential sulphide mineralisation zones. Says interpreted Northern Copper Zone has, "as expected", varying sulphide accumulation levels. Nearest hole to NCZ001 intersected two zones with grades including 1.20% copper and 1.42% copper equivalent back in the 1970s. Lower zone of aforementioned sulphide accumulation "demonstrates areas with very high levels of chalcopyrite". Firm was however unable to complete the downhole Muon survey on NCZ001 due to a zone of broken ground.
