LONDON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Alliance Trust hasappointed Robert Smith as chairman from February as theinvestment firm implements a major overhaul following pressurefrom activist investor Elliott Advisors.
Smith is currently chairman of UK Green Investment Bank,Forth Ports Limited and IMI, and was previously chairman of theWeir Group and of SSE, and a non-executive director of StandardBank.
Last November, Karin Forseke announced she was stepping downas chairwoman from this month, following an announcement inOctober that the Trust would implement significant changes todeliver better performance.
"I am looking forward to getting started and playing my partin delivering the changes that are necessary to return the Trustto the levels of performance upon which it has earned itsreputation and success," Smith said in a statement on Thursday.
Gregor Stewart will become deputy chairman.
