Australian explorer Rockfire announce 200,000 ounce gold JORC Resource upgrade in Queensland

London South East caught up with David Price, CEO of Rockfire Resources (LSE:ROCK) the Australian AIM-listed explorer, to ask him about the recent JORC Resource upgrade to 200,000 ounces of gold at Plateau within the Lighthouse tenement in Queensland.

Rockfire is a gold and base metal exploration company with a portfolio of 100%-owned gold and copper assets in Queensland, Australia:

• Lighthouse (gold)
• Copperhead (copper)
• Marengo (gold)
• Copper Dome (copper)

Our interview focuses on last week’s Plateau resource upgrade and the next steps for advancing Plateau and its potentially large-scale copper projects.

The Company is exploring in the attractive investment and mining destination of Queensland, where +13M ounces of gold have already been produced from within 50 km of the Company’s Lighthouse tenement.

Last week, the Company announced that, within the Lighthouse tenement, its flagship Plateau Gold Deposit, surpassed a JORC Mineral Resource of 200,000 ounces of gold, representing a 515% increase in gold ounces since the Company's maiden Mineral Resource reported previously in July 2019.

The deposit could conceivably form a low cost, early, open cut mining operation. The Company sees similarities with Plateau and the Mt Wright Gold Mine, which lies 47km to the north east of Plateau, with +1.5 Moz. gold. Silver is expected to add value to the economics of any future production.

At another prospect, Bell Rock, Rockfire has recently announced results of soil sampling which provide very high gold-in-soil values and have identified a +300 m long and +100 m wide coincident gold/copper soil anomaly. Bell Rock is only 4 km from the Company’s flagship Plateau project, within the Lighthouse tenement.

Outside of the Lighthouse tenement, in December 2020, a helicopter magnetic (Heli-Mag) survey doubled the copper target area at Copperhead. Planned work at Copperhead over the coming months includes detailed prospect-scale mapping and soil/rock sampling within the expanded target area, with subsequent drilling.

At their fourth asset, the Marengo goldfield, the Company is seeking expressions of interest from parties for a Farm-In and Joint Venture.
