Feedback on new portfolio.
We've had a number of e-mails regarding the new portfolio system that was added a couple of months back, and have taken the decision to temporarily switch the old portfolio to be the default while we address the change requests.
We have a decent sized list, but some of the ones we are definitely doing include:
1) Add a 'copy portfolio' button to bring across holdings from the old portfolio.
2) Percentage Change info plus direction arrow for the current prices
3) Link from each holding to the corresponding share price page.
4) Adding some contextual help; while we feel we have got a fairly good balance between usability and complexity, there has been feedback that the new portfolio is a little more difficult to use, and some features are not obvious.
----------------------------------------------------------
If users have more feedback that you feel would be useful, please feel free to post it here!
The new portfolio system has several advantages over the old one, and we feel will become a valuable tool for investors; however as with everything that is well used, we do understand that not everyone likes change! The advantages / features include:
1) Graphing of historical portfolio values
2) Profit/Loss for the day
3) Cash management (the old system does not take cash into account at all)
4) Support for multiple currencies, for foreign shares traded on the stock exchange.
5) Print support
6) Multiple portfolio support
7) Streaming live prices for live price subscribers
8) Export of holdings as CSV (Excel spreadsheet format)
9) Notes - per portfolio, and per transaction
10) Roll-back (undo) of last transaction per share
11) Full transaction history, plus cash-book.
As always, we value the feedback from our users, and will do our best to ensure that the portfolio meets requirements.
Many thanks,
Admin

Again, I have tried to enter data into the new portfoilio. It is just too fiddly having to go through 3 screens just to make a change or addition. in fact, it drives me mad and makes me very angry. The iii portfolio is like you are attempting to do - it is just too complex. yours (old one) is great. I can make alterations in seconds to my holdings. It's a fast moving world. we buy and sell frequently, often in the day, so a simple, very quick indicator of my holding is all I need. Some of the features in the new one are advantageous, eg a quick link to the data page. Can't you hide the price graphs - I don't like being reminded of the ups and downs, usually the latter! best regards, Larryh

Thanks LarryH - noted.
We'll see if it's possible to have a 'quick add', or possibly a simple mode. I agree that the new system is better suited to less frequent traders.
Also, we've flagged a to-do to add a 'hide' roll-up to the graphs!

I am noticing same thing, valuation of P/L is completely different to old one and exactly the same holdings at exactly the same prices have been entered.

Hi DavieR / Bloomio,
You are correct, the valuations will show differently. This is however correct; the valuations for the new Portfolio are based on the sell (bid) prices (as opposed to the old one which uses the mid-price) - so the valuation is closer to what you'd actually get if you sold a holding.
When we were doing the specification for the new system, we looked at a number of other websites, and it appeared that most do it this way, and it does make sense, even if the valuation is slightly more pessimistic.
Hope that helps,
Admin

I hav tried and tried to transfer my portfolio from the old to the new with no success.
If this does go to default you may find a lot of regular users will go elsewhere..
To be honest I really like it the way it is and if it ain't broken, why fix it?
Progress, I presume...

I agree with VERNESK.
Advantages of 'old' system:
1) Extremely quick and simple
2) Changes can be carried out quickly and pain free
Potential of 'new' system:
1) Much more accurate that LSE now incorporates selling price rather mid price.
2) Percentage daily increase and value increase (or decrease I hope not!) is greater for analysing performance.
3)If the 'old' portfolio could be transferred across. it is taking me a while to manually transfer.
Disadv: Cash income makes profit/return much more confusing. IT MUST HAVE A DELETE STOCK buttom. I also use Reuters and it is toooo clever. You should allow users just to simply delete stocks rather than input it as a sell.

Doesn't seem quite right and I prefer the old one at the moment for the reasons already given. But then the old one doesn't quite do what I want. I've tried making my own system without success too. Please keep trying.

i find the colour coding , higher /lower arrows, share links and ability to look at seperate transactions in a share rather than average price the main technical reasons reasons that i use your site.Is it possible to include these facilities in the new potfolio.
Also the existing table is excellent for reading on my phone using opera 4.2. the new format is very difficult to read as it has too many columns and appears at the bottom of the page. could the columns be customiseable so i can select what i want to make it fit my phone screen.

I like the new portfolio but a couple of suggestions: I'd like a link on the share code that would take me to the share's page quickly; and often times after the close of business my new portfolio registers bizarre prices sometimes, ie BP. @ 500.00 etc.

Please can you make Euro based stocks like BKIR work properly in portfolio.
Also Can you transfer the old portfolio to the new portfolio and remove some of the screens in the new portfolio so it requires less clicking/navigation to manage.

Glad to see the definite improvements.
It is a real struggle to move the old stuff onto the new portfolio.
It does not understand holdings that are some months old and trats them as bought today!!
Could we have date purchased as an extra field?
Could we have an indicator showing Xd or better still the date it will/may go Xd?

I have just updated my some shares that I didnt have the time to change from last month and noticed that the graph has not changed accordingly. Will this be fixed or will it keep the shares that I sold but did not imput it untill a later stage stay the same. Think I explained that right.

Div earned and date would be great.

I am about to build a portfolio and looked at the old and the new versions of inputting the data.
The new version fails to allow the input of the commission paid in a transaction so will not give an accurate copy.
I also hope there will be a way to transfer the old portfolio to the new without retyping everything

i have a live price account and the portfolio never shows the same price, which i thought was the idea. Therefore the charts are inacurate. also some of the colours that are used to trace the shares are very difficult to see, one of which was an off white! hopefully given time these points will be taken on board and can be adjusted accordingly.

Works OK. Put the right info in, you get the right result out. Tracks multiple shares and comes on when I turn computer on. Couldn't be easier!
