To deal or not to deal?

I sometimes catch a glimpse on television of the programme Deal or no deal. I find the programme enjoyable, but usually only catch bits of it due to my two boisterous children and the time that it airs. I can’t believe the amount of people that let greed get in the way of a good result. Early on in the competition, you see decent money being offered as a prize. It is usual to see anything around £10,000 or more, depending on game play. At this point, I’m usually shouting ‘Take the money’, but I feel the majority have a gambling tendency as they look at the board and see values still available up to £250,000. Some people play the game well and come away with a large amount of cash but, for most, they refuse the offer made to them and continue in such a way that they end up with a lot less. Now, I’ll compare this to the stock market. Has anyone been in a position where the sp is rising, you have a good profit and you hang in there just for that little bit more? Then, unfortunately, it turns against you and it turns fast. Hanging in there for that little bit extra has just cost you dearly. I used to do that, but now things are different. With my trading stock, if I’m in at 8p and people are saying on chat boards ‘This is going to 15p’; then the chances are I’ll be out anywhere between 9p and 10p. I might miss a little bit extra if it ticks up that extra 1 or 2 pence, but rarely does it hit other people’s expectations. I’m happy to accept what profit I have and get out before the rush. I would love to participate in Deal or no deal, but I would most likely be the quickest contestant ever as I would be shouting ‘Deal’...to go home happy with a few thousand pounds. It wouldn’t matter if I was holding even more. What will be, will be. Take what you can get and be happy with your lot. At the end of the day, it will be more than you started with and that has to be a bonus.
