Someone at Cavendish Lab, Cambridge likened cold fusion to spoon bending .
mrcautious, you need to read that article we're discussing.
Wodfood's words at the time were "we've valued it at the price of the last placing" or similar.
Which involved very close parties and was as bent as a nine bob note, imo
Why do you think some people are suggesting Woodford should be imprisoned for fraud?
I wouldn't go quite that far, but then I've read an article about cold fusion;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_fusion
And it doesn't make for good reading.
At the very least, it seems to me Woodford had too much money to invest and just punted it, on some absolute rubbish.
888 - What you sat is the 'get out of jail free card' that all financial advisors use - "Long Term". But if ou'd bought this at launch you would now be at year 4 of no gain and a near 50% loss. How patient are you then ??
To be honest with Woodfords OEIC's if they are low then they are investments in real shares which should generally recover given time. That the trouble with investment trusts like WPCT if no one wants to buy then the NAV has little meaning unless the discount is huge and you are expecting for the trust to be wound up !
I know woodford is a one trick pony it seems now, but given the high profile why would we not believe the NAV here - surely wouldnt liying about this be a bridge too far ???
Read Cold Fusion think alchemy.
It was realising the extent of WPCT's holding in Industrial Heating that persuaded me to swallow the loss and sell out.
Scary and reminds me of Quindell.
And we're expected to believe the NAV here?
Read this online.
I have heard of frozen assets but this is ridiculous
You are right with your definition of Patient, But , even if the fundementals behind are strong, they are unquoted and as such once the confidence goes, so does the SP. I have reluctantly sold for a 30% loss. Should have been 10% but
I believed in the Woodford blog. Wiped out years of profit from my other investments. Back to the drawing board.
who was spoofed by cold fusion? Woodford certainly was. i thought it was 6% of assets but another poster reckons 10% however dyor
The whole point is to reduce risk due to 1. a pooled investment across lots of companies - some complete dog others brilliant 2. Woodford supposedly has special access to early investments the average punter does not.
Looking back in hindsight (unfortunately as I fell for this) it is clear woodford was just chucking darts in a board. On some of the winners why the hell did he sell out of aj bell before the float.
Everything he has done has just been s""t.
Just seen one of the unquoted companies which has been heavily invested in the fund, Eskimo Central Heating and Plumbing supplies with the companies strapline, 'available for all igloos big and small'.
Sounds like another multi-million pound bonus is on its way !!
The think I find a little frustrating is the name of the investment is Patient capital trust. it seems some people are annoyed because they have not made any money in 3 years. maybe they should find an investment out there that is call ed "instant return will beat the market and no risk Trust".
Circ £22M to Woodford plus all the other fees/ income from the Ltd Co. for LOSING other peoples money. There are far better and safer tracker funds, fund managers and advisers like this have demonstrated that most fail to outperform.
At this rate he and partner will due another bumper bonus !!
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-6574327/Neil-Woodford-business-partner-pocket-37m-windfall-despite-dismal-2018.html
How come all the Woodford press articles are in the business sections - the sport section is far more apt!
Kier never featured in the 97 Co's listed in WPCT but they could be heading for inclusion soon!
you want to invest in cold fusion??
Have to agree that he is finished but if this is to be separated then it has to be worth a punt as the price falls in line with the patient higher risks of unlisted startups?
You are both missing the point! You both need to expand your reading matter/research. According to today's Daily Telegraph Woodford is finished as a fund manager - it's that bad! He will be removed from managing WPCT which might have a bright future afterwards but there are millions of other better investments!
6% of fund invested in cold fusion according to evening standard article. Does anyone believe in cold fusion? Maverick inventor claimed to have invented a machine which created vast amounts of steam ... it was a kettle!!!
It looks like the only secure thing left of investors money is Woodford's horses!
Because people are frit. British people are scared to run their profits and come out too soon.
Good point very few hobbies take up billions in cash! Patronising . It is rather extraordinary how left wing the FT is and always has been.
Interesting that on Hargreaves platform the 8th most popular purchase in the past week is Woodfords Income Focus fund. To Beardozer the one line answer is his body language and smirk.
